“Great location, OK hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 October 2011

Came down for a 2 night stay in early October.

Hotel was still pretty busy despite a bad forecast and the end of the season. We have stayed before and decided to go again as the location was good and it was still pretty cheap

Good bits:

+ Location -5 mins from beach
+ Cheap (we paid £60 per night)
+ Basic rooms but pretty good
+ Breakfast -chaotic and not great service but decent selection

Bad bits:

+ Room needs updating as a few nicks in paintwork, mould in bathroom etc
+ Parking - the staff appear to 'block in' the guests, not clever. If they advertise that 'there is enough parking for everyone providing everyone parks sensibly then that should be the case. If there isn't enough parking then they should give you a residnets permit to park in the car park opposite as most of the other local hotels do.
+ The walls in the rooms are really thin, I heard next door snoring and running taps, not good.

Overall its not terrible and given how expensive a lot of the other hotels are, you could grin and bear it for a night or so.

“Very disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 September 2011

Travelled down to stay in Cornwall for a 3 night stay using Perranporth and the Perranporth Inn as our base. What a terrible mistake. We wanted to leave 20 minutes after arriving. But as we were tired we decided to sleep on it. However, first impressions are normally correct and and we ended up only staying 2 of the 3 intended nights. I have stayed in worse places but I am struggling to remember where and when. Seriously, this hotel makes a night in a Travelodge seem like utter luxury!

Here are some of my observations/comments:

The smell of the place, it’s horrific. I can only describe it as a similar to a nursing home. Old, musty, stale, with the overpowering whiff of cheap, awful air freshener which smells similar to Brasso.

The view. I believe we asked for a room with a sea view which technically was what we got. But....the main view was looking into a grotty courtyard and into a neighbouring commercial kitchen. (see pics)

The bathroom, a shower which had very little pressure and reduced the hotter you wanted the water. The extractor fan also appeared to have never seen a hosel of a vacuum (see pic) and venetian blinds that I would be surprised if they have ever been cleaned . No shelf or cabinet to store items.

The room had carpet which was heavily stained. The wallpaper looked as though mould was breeding. Curtains which not only did not really block the light but drooped where hooks where missing. (see Pic)

The sleep quality is awful with your sleep pattern dictated by follow guests. The sound proofing is dreadful.

Poor and lack of parking for guests. Was actually blocked in on one occasion by a member of staff. God knows what it would be like when the hotel is full.

Simple things like every room not having a hairdryer or a Iron. OK, you can ask for these, but when I asked for a hairdryer at reception I was told they were all being used!

Breakfast is ok, certainly not the best quality cooked breakfast, but good selection of cereals and tea and coffees is on tap. You have to order toast and therefore wait which was annoying especially as the amount they supply is minuscule.

Staff were polite, but no more.

Bar was reasonable.

Would not recommend this hotel to anyone. Certainly not 4 stars, as advertised, and not worth the money. Poor.

“The best thing about this hotel is the location.”

The staff were very cheerful and an asset to the hotel which is more than I can say about the rooms. The room we were staying in simply not seen a decorator for 20 years. The best thing I could say about it was it was clean and the bed was comfy but there was nowhere to put anything. No robe hook in bathroom, nowhere to put your cosmetics, books, newspapers or lap top as all surfaces are already full with tea making facilities, bedside lamps tv and set top box.
The breakfast was ok but the sausages were reminiscent of a condom stuffed with sawdust. I would be prepared to pay extra for some of the local homemade sausages from the butcher in the town which looked delicious.
I would have to say I wouldn't call it great value for money, I can't fault the staff but quality of basic breakfast ingredients could be better especially as there is such great local produce in Cornwall

“Don't expect to get what you pay for!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 September 2011

A great shame that a hotel in such a lovely location should fall into the 'catch 'em and fleece 'em' category. We couldn't fault the reception or room staff for their politeness BUT actions do speak louder than words. They need to take notice of simple things like changing the towels when asked to do so, leaving CLEAN cups in the rooms (maybe topping up the biscuits?) and employing waitresses whose brains have not been left on the beach!

“PERRANPORTH INN - COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

Perranporth Inn has a fantastic location and has an entrance on the High Street and a back entrance too. We were in the area for a friend's wedding. The Inn itself requires to be redecorated, the decoration is very old and tatty. The rooms - phew I doubt the electrics around the TV would pass the health and safety standards !!! Its really bad, The room decoration is out of date too but was as clean as you could keep it. The toilet and bathroom were clean but everything there was again - in bad shape, with the glass shelf missing in the bathroom, light not working above the mirror and one of the window (in the bedroom) not able to close !!!! The towels and linen were clean. The breakfast was excellent and the young girl and boy serving the breakfast were 1st Class- excellent and friendly. We were eating out with friends most of the time, and on the last night decided to have a soup. The soup was served with a baguette which was cut in half. While placing the dish on the table one half of the baguette felll to the floor. The lady serving us said she would bring us another, but brought the same one that fell on the floor. There was hair sticking on it and also the way the bread was cut (which was not a clean cut) would fit into the loaf that was on the table. It put us off the bread and the soup as well.

Room Tip: The Rooms really need a facelift !!!!
