We booked this hotel as part of one of those daily internet deals. There is the main hotel (in which we stayed) and a couple of apartments too.
We arrived on one of the wettest & darkest nights in November. The car park was muddy and unlit - we struggled to find the reception (there were no signs). The girls on reception were very friendly and booked us in for dinner in the hotel restaurant upon arrival.
We walked for what felt about a mile and a half to get to our room (it was an attic room) and it was so cold when we finally got in. The furniture and décor was dated (in need a bit of TLC) and the bathroom was tiny. There was a bath with a over head shower, but as the ceiling was sloped and so low it was hard to use. I'm only five foot but even I struggled to stand upright in the shower.
Whilst the bedding was clean, the bed was very uncomfortable. It was a very cheap, thin mattress and I didn't sleep well. My husband slept fine (but then he'd have a good night's sleep on a washing line ...) The walls were very thin and we could hear every word of the conversation in the room next door.
Breakfast on both mornings was lovely; big portions and lots of choice and the food. We thought the food in the restaurant was overpriced.
The hotel was fully booked and we noted a number of guests were unhappy with their rooms. They complained of flies, funny smells and rubbish TVs, but this was not something we experienced. The staff were very friendly, welcoming but looked rushed off their feet. On the Saturday afternoon, as the weather was rubbish, we sat by the lovely log fire on the comfy sofa and read newspapers and magazines.
We love Cornwall, but would not stay here again. The hotel needs a lot of money spent on it to bring it up to date and bring it in line with other hotels in the area. As we had a cheap deal, we were quite happy with what we paid, but would have been unhappy if we had paid their normal asking price.
