Visited this pub the other day. Warm freindly welcome. Excellent food and service.
Great place to go after walking on the moors.
Will definately return.

Room Tip: Didnt stay but rooms should be OK judging by the way the place is run.

Visited here over the weekend and had a meal. Very warm welcome and cosy atmosphere. Real fire roaring which is always nice to see. Food was absolutely superb - highly recommend the roast which is brilliant value for money. Friendly and attentive staff who were happy to help. Well done
Will definately return

“OMG! What an awful, place!”

Hideous staff, with no customer service skills whatsoever, we were ignored for ages and when we did manage to get served the serving staff practically shoved the plates on the table and slopped food everywhere. The fish wasn't cooked properly and when we complained they looked at us as if they wanted to cut off our heads!!! One female member of staff in particular stank of cigarette smoke and was extremely unprofessional. As for the toilets - we would recommend using public toilets rather than these.

Our staff are highly trained and very experienced. They have worked here for many many years and I would be very surprised if they ignored a customer or served them badly.
Not sure what fish dish you ordered but as we only serve deep fried breaded fish it is surprising that it would be undercooked.
The main reason for my response, however, is your comment about the toilets. You say you visited us in December 2011 - in the early part of the summer 2011 we completely refurbished the toilets. Not only was EVERYTHING replaced including toilets, basins and urinals but we also relaid the floors and had new hygeinic walls fitted to all the toilets. We have had countless positive comments since they were finished, one customer even saying she would eat her meal in there they were that nice!
I wish you had have made your feelings known on the day in question and we might have sorted it out there and then.

“Fantastic food. Fast friendly service. Great value for money.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 August 2011

We live in Cornwall and often eat out. For work we dine at some very "exclusive" hotels. We had been over the Moor and wanted to some hearty food without a wait. The bar was full with a function, and I half expected a long wait. The young man at the bar was polite, friendly and attentive. We sat outside waiting for our food, as we had wet dogs. We watched as the wild ponies grazed near by. The views are lovely, and it is situated in a small village with a quaint tea rooms, post office etc. The food came out and was piping hot. Our choice of menu was varied and all of the food came out together. My chicken was succulent and melted in my mouth, the stilton sauce was second to none. The vegetables were perfect and not over cooked. The steaks had been prepared as requested, and were truely tasty.

I can be fussy and dont like poor service or churned out food. I can honestly say that the service and the quality of food in here was SECOND TO NONE. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a quality service and good food without the designer prices. Thank you
