“You cant beat Dave's Cornish porker”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 November 2011

We stayed in Highfield Lodge in May, June and September. Dave and Lisa keep the hotel spotlessly clean. The rooms are lovely some face Cubert Common and the others look over to Crantock Bay. The choice of breakfast is really good but I can't stop having Dave's lovely fry up. The boiled eggs come out with little wooly hats on. The bar area is great for evening drinks with other guests or just walk down the road to the cornishman for a great evening. We always leave looking forward to our next visit!!!

Room Tip: All of them are great! Cant wait to see the refurbishment.

“Great holiday, would definately return!”

We have just returned from a 6 night break at the Highfield Lodge in Crantock.
The locaton was perfect for us as it's very close to some lovely beaches and plenty of coastal walks. The village is a 5 minute walk and there's some excellent places to eat nearby ( i would recommend the Smugglers Den Inn and the Cornishman ). Newquay is also a 10 minute drive away.
The accommodation is very clean and comfortable with flat screen tv's, tea/coffe making facilities and a hairdryer. We stayed in the suite which was a bit extra but well worth it.
There was plenty of choice at breakfast, i alternated between pancakes and a full Cornish - both were lovely, you can also order kippers or haddock but have order them the day before.
Dave and Lisa were great hosts and gladly provided us with a few items that we had forgotten and were happy to give us plenty of tips on places to visit and where to eat.
On the whole we had a great holiday and we would definately return here.

“Memorable for all the wrong reasons”

My wife and I flew to England from Switzerland to walk the South West Coast Path. Wishing to avoid Newquay because of its reputation, we chose to stay at Crantock which has a small and pleasant village, a couple of pubs and lovely sandy beaches. The welcome might have been warmer had we been accompanied by dogs to this dog friendly establishment. We were informed several times (both orally and in the room literature) that the owners believed that keeping dogs is preferable to raising children - thank goodness we hadn't brought our children with us! The quality of the room furnishings were average which included an old style TV. We were given 1 small tube of hair and body wash for the 2 of us which was not replenished on Day 2. Breakfast was very standard and, all-in-all, there was nothing to make us want to return or to recommend it.

Every guest house, hotel or organisation that deals with the public get's a bad review once in a while!
It would seem that this is ours, and whilst it would be easy to dismiss it we are greatly disappointed in receiving it.
We feel the title is a bit extreme, and not reflective of the actual review, but we do take on board the points made.
The room this guest had does have an older style t.v. its two years old works perfectly and has access to free view. We are upgrading the T.V's and many of the rooms now have flat screen t.v.'s with built in dvd and freeview.
With regards to the room furniture there are many pictures of the rooms on our website which as you would expect are actual pictures of the rooms.
With regards to breakfast, we have many fabulous comments, and even 3 this season from people who travel extensively with their jobs who said "It's the best breakfast they have ever had"
All our guests receive the same welcome (with or without dogs, a great proportion of which stay year after year) and I spent a very pleasant evening in the bar (or so I thought) with the husband of this partnership. Just in case we had taken our foot off the pedal that week we checked our guest comment book.
The following are comments left by guests who stayed in the same week:
"lovely stay again, very comfortable & friendly - great breakfast!! See you again (Graham Ange, Pip & Layla)
"A great break here, standards still 100% (Andy & Sharon Fletcher)
"Excellent!!! Thanks for your great hospitality! (Andrew, Hazel & Basil)
"Thanks for a brilliant hospitable comfortable holiday, fantastic breakfasts, great hosts, lovely b&b" (Dave, Janet & Chip)
"Wonderful stay, really nice place and people, very welcoming - Thank you. (Emma & Adam)
We trust that prospective guests will take this negative review in context, with the other positive reviews and guest comments above, try us and leave their own review.

“First class stay, 150% service, very comfortable modern hospitality & beautiful dogs!”

Linda and I stayed at the Highfield Lodge from Friday 3rd June to Monday 6th June.

Firstly a big thank you to Dave & Lisa, two of the most genuine people you will ever meet, exceptionally caring and went out of their way to make for a perfect stay.

The lodge is modern, has everything you'll need in the exceptionally clean room TV/digital, comfortable bed, ensuite, chill out CD, tea/coffee facilities and some exceptional views from the rooms.

The breakfast is first class, Linda and I were very cheeky and had the full english every morning, as we could not get enough of the 'cornish banger' and the rest of the delightful food.

We were highly impressed as there were 'no rules' and what I mean by that Dave & Lisa ask to treat the lodge 'like our home'...key to get in whenever you like, if Dave & Linda were out of the room help yourself to anything behind the bar (and leave a note as to what you have drunk)....I feel this sums up the couple and their wonderful abode/lodge.

The dogs are beautiful too and rest assured they're kept out of the areas you would expect.

Such an amazing stay at a lesser price than others in the area and we'll be returning without a shadow of a doubt!

Thanks Nick Eaton

“Fantastic location, friendly hosts, recommended!”

We stayed for 4 nights in the flat to the side of Highfield Lodge, and our experience was much the same as those others on this site who enjoyed a friendly and unobtrusive welcome. We have two dogs and Dave and Lisa were relaxed and very easy going when it came to their needs and ours. The flat is very well looked after and our stay was an excellent one. We would have absolutely no hesitiation in recommending Highfield Lodge and Dave and Lisa, to anyone.
