“Wedding ceremony/Reception”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

On 23rd July 2011, we held our ceremony and reception at the Bolholt and from start to end, the organisation, staff, management, food, drink (I could go on and on), were outstanding.
Like any woman getting married, I was constantly ringing and emailing to ask questions (and apologised for this), but nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff we spoke to
On the day itself, the organisation of the staff shone out and everything was as we asked. The food and drink was excellent and the waiters/waitresses did a sterling job. The decoration of the room was beautiful and the layout perfect. Our guests all commented on the hotels beautiful surroundings and amenitys and this only contributed to making the day more perfect knowing that they were happy. In particular Robert, was amazing, he managed to keep us both calm throughout and anything we asked for, he did. The rooms were lovely, very clean and beds comfortable and the breakfast the next day was again to an excellent standard. We would certainly recommend the Bolholt to anybody, looking for a wedding venue.

“Nothing to complain about”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

I stayed for 1 night in a family room with my husband, child and baby and was pleasantly surprised with the room. The bed was comfortable and big and we also had a sofa aswell. The size of the room was fine for all of us and was clean. The bathroom was of a good standard; the bath was a good size and my husband used the shower and said the flow was good and the water was lovely and hot. The things that could be improved with the room is a just a little updating with the furntiure and tv. The pillows were also very bulky and not that comfortable.

We ate our evening meal in the restaurant and the food was tasty! I had the beef cobbler and the meat was lovely and tender. It could have been better if they had a childs menu but the chef made a few recommendations for us and made a ciabatta pizza for our daughter. Breakfast was good aswell with plenty of buffet options and a freshly cooked breakfast if required.

All the staff were friendly and helpful and we enjoyed our stay.

This hotel is dated, dirty and expensive. All the furnishings are worn, ripped and cheap. The bar is expensive ie pint of cider and black £3.90.The rooms are full of cheap pine and you could slide a dinner tray under the door. The bedding/towels etc are old and tatty, the shower water warm and the toilet/bathroom very rough.Good job my friends put a good party on and the breakfast was acceptable or my stay would of been totally ruined.Put simple faulty towers.Would not return.

“Not that impressed, it's just alright.”

I stayed here as I had a very early meeting in Bury and it was closest. I think this hotel has seen better days and looks a bit tired. There is a photo of John Major visiting in the foyer and I think he would be a good representation of the hotel; grey and boring. I made a reservation through the best western website a couple of nights before, but when I arrived the reception staff when they eventually got around to talking to me (only one girl on, and she was on the phone) found no details of it because it is now a lavender hotel - it took me over 30 minutes to check in. When I eventually got to my room which was down a corridor, up a flight of steps, around another corridor, up some more steps and through a couple of fire doors propped open with fire extinguishers it was red hot as the heating was on full chat. I tried to open the window but it only opens a few inches due to the bars on the outside. I did have a meal in the restaurant which wasn't that great for how much it was, and the service was dire with the waitress verging on being a bit rude. I went for a walk in the surrounding park area. Be warned there is an unsecured gate out the front of the hotel which leads to a nice pond area. At night this area is not very well lit and is somewhat unkept with a lot of uneven ground so and an unguarded lake. Just be warned if visiting with children as I saw no liferings or other life saving equipment. The room itself was a good size with good furnishing (double bed, sofa, dressing table) with suede curtains in an attempt to lift the decor, however these were badly chemically stained by bleach or similar so looked tatty. The bathroom was a bit of a dive, with mould in the grout and several cracked tiles. Had to run round in the shower the water flow was that bad and it wasn't particularly hot.

Firstly please let me apologise for your recent stay with us. I will pass your comments on to head office in regards to the presentation of the hotel and I will also pass on your comments about the food to our head chef and the service staff.

We have resolved the issue regarding the lighting around the lake and I can now assure you that this area is well lit and safe.

Kind Regards

Stayed here for one night. Hotel pleasent enough looking. Reception girl was excellent. There is a nice heatlh club which is located in another building a couple of minutes away. Room nice enough. Four poster bed looked nice but very small and extremely soft. Shower was luke warm so i had a bath which was very hot. Had evening meal in bar area which was nice. Breakfast was not very nice though. Had scrambled egg which was horrible. However the staff are very nice and helpful so overall i would say it ok to stay there.
