“thoroughly enjoyed our stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 June 2011

Good twin room with clean, bright bathroom. Two windows giving views of river through one and 4 small pigs running around through the other. When I booked I was told that this was the nicest twin room and warned that the one over the bar could be noisy. Staff were friendly and food was fine. Dining room a bit bleak-slightly blue lighting. Breakfast room much more cheery and good fresh juice and lovely cooked breakfast and home made bread and marmalade. Picnic area opposite pub was lovely in the sunshine.

“what a let down, over priced food and poor service but lovely setting”

stayed for the weekend with friends on a return visit. The 1st time staying at the talbot the food was fantastic and worth the price, location ideal nice stop over for a weekend break, Hence why we returned. Food this time very poor, cold and over priced, we ate off the bar menu and in the restaurant, not inspiring at all, just a rip off and the breakfast wasn't much better. However the evening bar staff were very pleasant.
Lovely place to stay but not to eat

Friendly service. Small but clean and well decorated room. Views of the river. Lovely location by the river. Ate in the restaurant- good food. Breakfast had freshly squeezed orange juice, home made bread, preserves.

“Great beer, over-priced rooms and food”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 February 2011

This is a lovely pub with great own brew beer and good food. However, the restaurant food, whilst well presented, is very over-priced. The room we stayed in was very old and tired and again, very over-priced, even with the February discount offer. It was one of the 'quiet' rooms i.e. not over the bar, but the noise from the creaking floorboards and guests next door (through the paper thin walls) kept us awake most of the night and ultimately meant that we reduced a two night stay to one night. The bed was extremely comfortable though and the room was cool (something you often don't find in hotels).

“Genuine family run country pub”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2011

This cosy pub has some lovely rooms above it, and is well worth a visit. The pub brews it own beer, and its sustainable food policy means meals are locally sourced and largely organic. This is not a place for people who enjoy Holiday Inn comforts - floorboards are creaky, beds are old, there is noise from the bar drifting up to the rooms - but the whole experience is charming.
Food is not always up to scratch, but is genuinely home-cooked and healthy. Service is really superb. We were a large family group, and they went out of their way to help wherever they could.
The home-brewed beer is superb!
