“Really Awful”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 December 2010

Stayed here to visit family as our usual hotel was full. Got a deal on late rooms but it was still hugely overpriced. We were only people staying which should have rung alarm bells. Manager was very welcoming and the downstairs is Ok with nice bar. The upstairs is awful though - smells like an old folks home, all the doors chipped, carpet threadbare and the room was really rundown and tired looking and cold - he had put an extra heater in there which helped a bit. The bathroom was the worst - mouldy, tiles coming down off ceiling, shower broken so it kept falling down and scolding you. Not at all worth the money.

“Good service and good value!”

We came with great trepidation having read adverse reviews - either the adverse reviewers stayed in a different hotel or things have changed enormously since their stay. The hotel was clean, the sea views were impressive, the rooms were adequate, the breakfasts were excellent and the staff courteous and helpful. if there is a criticism the bathrooms are on the small side. All in all a decent hotel for the price!

Stayed for 3 nights with 9 friends. Rooms were fine, some of us had a sea view. Treat with excellent service from the manager and his staff. Breakfast was excellent with a very good selection. Treat some of the other reviews with a pinch of salt

“Fawlty towers”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 April 2010

First of all the room we were in looked nothing like the picture on the website. The phone in our room didn't work for the first two days. The first morning there the wife pulled clean clothes out of the drawers covered in dust. There were cobwebs hanging from the ceiling and the bed was the worst bed i have ever slept in.On saturday the 27th of march we had a taxi booked for four pm to take us to the leasowe castle for a wedding. We got back to the hotel for three pm to shower and get ready. Can you imagine to our horror that there was no hot water to be had for a shower as they turn of the heater for the water during the day.I confronted the owner mr carruthers who was more combative and didnt seem to care. When i told him that it would have been nice to have been informed of this little matter he just had this blank look accross his face like he hadn't even thought about telling his paying customers. This is the worst hotel i have ever stayed in,and i think fawlty towers looks like the ritz compered to this hovel.

“WORST HOTEL ON EARTH”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2010

I went to a friend's son's wedding with my teenage daughter. It was the first time she had stayed in a hotel and she was horrified. We arrived a bit early but were given the key. When we went into the room it was a mess. The bed was unmade and the sheets unwashed, the bins were full, there was a dirty cup of tea left on the bedside table. The loo was unflushed and the mirror in the bathroom was chipped. There was a vase smashed on the floor. We had to find the maid and ask her to clean the room - when we asked for a room swap we were told it couldn't be done. The TV was broken and the room looked like it hadn't been decorated in 30 years. The view to the sea across the busy road was totally unspectacular and it was noisy at night. The cooked breakfast was cold.
It would take me pages to recall all the horrors of this place. I wouldn't stay there again if someone paid me £200 to go. The bad memories still play on my mind and I always use Tripadvisor and other reviews now because of this!
