“Fabulous stay at hollins hey!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

Stayed at hollins hey for wedding & would highly recommend it for its cleanliness, welcoming staff, peace & quiet. The owner & his staff could not have done more for us. So helpful & accommodating.

Most enjoyable part of stay was the stunning views across the mersey estuary from the hotel & more importantly the delicious food! Can honestly say the food we had is some of the best we've ever eaten! Great selection & all superb.

Room was spotless, very comfortable & homely feel. The hollins hey is most definitely the hotel I would recommend on the wirral to my family & friends.

Having travelled all continents of the world twice over. The hollins hey stands out amongst the best accommodation I've stayed in. Found previous reviews very misleading & unfair.

“A celebration weekend”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

We attended a very special wedding and had the most wonderful time - I can't fault the organisation and attention to detail, it was excellent, as was the food; I've never been anywhere where they can manage to serve the food as hot as they did, which they pride themselves on. All the staff did a smashing job and got on with it without making a fuss. Everything went very smoothly and I would definitely recommend it for a wedding/celebration venue.
I have to say the messages left on 5 & 9 October 2011 were very misleading and uncalled for - I was apprehensive after reading them, which affected my excitement for the day, but happily the environment was very homely and comfortable.
The rooms are tired, but the owner is sorting this and I feel that you shouldn't be put off by this.
Overall it was a very successful wedding and the hotel achieved a high standard of customer service. I've worked in the hotel industry and know how difficult this is.

Room Tip: Sea Views recommended 2nd floor rooms have slanting ceilings and the ones I saw were smaller than o...

“Just don't bother”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 October 2011

Stayed here for a family wedding in September and if I'm honest I've stayed in better hostels in India. Value for money is terrible. My friend and I had a room each and both were filthy and tired looking. The manager was the only staff member that knew how to smile and he did so with reluctance.
The bed was solid as were the pillows, when I asked for an extra pillow I had to go to reception twice as it seems they forgot. The bathrooms were grotty and the mould in the shower cubicle was unbelievable.
Unless you want to get ripped off at the hotel bar I highly recommend going out, the prices simply got higher as the night went on, when I asked one staff member why the price had gone up over a pound in the last hour be replied 'well that was earlier'. Rip off.
Don't do it to yourselves. Stay away.

“Rip off & minging”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 October 2011

Had the misfortune of staying here as we attended a wedding
It's overpriced, tired paintwork & furnishings, awful smell (like old chip shop lard), the many air freshners around were not effective, The staff were miserable, the boss man was sycophantic. The food was of poor quality and quantity.
The worst of it was the bar prices........we were charged different amounts for the same drinks, we queried this and asked for a receipt. We eventually got a receipt but the bar man made it obvious he was not happy with us, we asked where the bar price list was, after some debate he produced it from under the counter and displayed it. Several guests complained about being overcharged at the bar, but no apology or refund was offered.
The next day we discovered we had several bites on us.............should have checked the matresses before we stayed.
There is a new travel lodge opened on the prom, right by Morrisons, that's where we will stay next time.

Room Tip: They don't exist at the Hollins Hey, try the travel lodge
