“A Little Gem!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

This was our second stay at the Lamb - having stayed 2 years ago when the were in the midst of the refurshiment we returned as our first visit had been so lovely. The rooms have been beautifully decorated and we had a lovely bathroom.

I think the thing that makes this hotel special is the open fires and the lovely low ceilings and English country charm. The staff were as ever very friendly and helpful and the food is of an excellent standard (I have to say probably the best breakfast I have ever had!) My only critisicm would be that the choice of medium priced wine was rather limited but other than that I can find no fault and would class this as my favourite UK weekend retreat! Also do have the haggis it's a must. Will be back again next year!

“Wonderful, cosy rooms and fantastic food & friendly service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

Stayed overnight on Sat 7th Jan - a getaway for my wife and I without the kids. We were upgraded to the Suite - Glenfarclan - as it was available. Nice seating area and then bedroom upstairs - lots of space.

We had lunch and dinner at the restaurant followed by breakfast the next morning. Everything was absolutely delicious - highly recommended it. The staff were all very attentive and friendly.

Room Tip: Ask if the Suites are free - always worth an upgrade.

“Lunch - not good value for money”

We have just met up with my cousin and her husband at the Lamb, for our annual post Christmas get-together, and we were all very disappointed with the food prices. Three of us ordered gourmet burgers at well over £8 each, and assumed chips or maybe even a small salad garnish may be included at that price, but sadly no, just the burger sat in the middle of a huge plate, with not so much as a lettuce leaf for company. Chips if we had ordered them would have been an extra £2.75 each, and after seeing some go by us in very small bowls, looking almost burnt, we are glad we didn't bother ! I had the chopped salad at almost £10 which said it came with new potatoes, but they were nowhere to be seen, and generally although quite tasty, the quantity for the price was very poor value. Needless to say we shall find somewhere much better and good value to meet up next year.

“Relaxing Christmas break”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

My wife and I, both in our seventies, recently returned from a "Three Day Christmas Special" at the Lamb. It was our first visit to Hindon and we had a most enjoyable and relaxing time, which was exactly what we wanted. The service and seasonal food were excellent and everyone from the Manager – Merle Crampton – down was friendly and helpful; nothing was too much trouble. For other features and attractions study the Lamb and the Hindon web-sites.
If you want gastro-pub décor with loud music and TV or chain-hotel identikit rooms – then this is not the place for you. If you like old buildings with history, log-basket fires, antiques, and sporting prints on the walls – then you'll like the Lamb.
We could not find a serious fault with our reception and stay. This made it hard to understand some of the adverse comments in other reviews, especially after talking to some of the 'locals' whose visitors always stay at the Lamb.
Mike and Eve Wood,

Room Tip: Worth paying a few pounds more for the novelty of a four-poster bed with a front view.

“Disappointing”

Having stayed here some 10 years ago, we were sad to see how the new ownership has lowered the standards of a perviously well renowned establishment. Immediately we were struck by the lack of cleanliness and tlc- dirty floors, tables uncleared, loos needed a good scrub and vacuum. The greeting we received was of disinterest. The cheerful, almost apologetic, young waiting staff could not compensate for the poor food- heavily battered whitebait, a slab of chicken liver pate with two measly burnt pieces of toast and a tiny dollop of chutney, I could go on...even my children thought their bangers and mash was grim. The building will always be charming but sadly, now only good for a pint. The Angel just opposite would have been perfect.
