Stayed at the Hotel for a family funeral! After receiving the confirmation I noticed that you couldn’t book into the room until 1400hrs, the funeral was at the same time. I rang the hotel, unluckily I did not get the man’s name, I explained that we were driving 4 hrs and needed to get into the room to get changed for the reasons above. I was told we couldn’t get into the rooms till 1400hrs, I repeated myself, only to hear ‘ok well I’ll see what can be done, we clean the first floor first so maybe we will put you in there or there will be somewhere for you to change but maybe not your room’……..not very helpful or even a little bit sincere!
We arrived at 1230, to be told yet again that the rooms wouldn’t be available until 1400hrs; I explained that I had rung and went through the entire conversation again! We were showed to room 1!
The stairs on the way up were filthy. We were greeted by dated wallpaper with boarder but clean enough until my partner moved the bedside table to use the plug! The room was stifling; luckily we could turn the radiator down and open a window.
In the bar they were extremely nice and friendly and once the family were altogether (about 20 of us) they were kind enough to let us re-arrange tables and chairs.
We didn’t sleep well, we couldn’t sleep well, the Sports Bar which adjoined the hotel closed about 0200am, the patrons were so so noisy for about 1 hour. Then the wind picked up and the hotel metal swing sign began creaking constantly (it was on our outside wall by the window), it sounded like someone was opening and closing a metal door…continuously! We informed the man in the office in the morning, where we handed in our keys who apologised!
We didn’t make it down for breakfast in the correct time, but the staff was only to willing to make us a hot sandwich, which really was above and beyond helpfulness.
