“Hard to explain this hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

I arrived at 6pm and had to wait for a few minutes for the room to be ready, the young girl was nice and friendly and came for me when the room was ready.
The room was clean and airy with a shower unit in the bathroom, which was a bit frugal.
It was made up of a single and double bed of which the single was made up,the lighting in the room leaves a lot to be desired,it was a single candle bulb away from the dressing table were I wanted to do some work,I found this difficult until I opened the toilet door and turn that light on.
The room had the usual tea and coffee beside the bed.
I was told that breakfast would be served from 7.30 in the morning, but when I went down at 7.45 there was no one about,I found the night porters number and rang him,he told me the girl who did the breakfast had not turned up and every thing was locked,he did say she would be there at 8.00,well 8.00 came and went with no sign of her and eventually the porter made my breakfast at 815, the breakfast was very good, although late.
The drive up to the hotel is pot holed all the way from the road to the hotel, about two hundred yards.
All in all,not the best first stay at this hotel,it can surely only get better

Room Tip: Couldn't tell you,but room 4 is the one I stayed in.

“Awful.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 November 2011

Quite simply, I would say this is the worst hotel I've ever stayed in.
Not that we can say stayed in though, more like visited, because it turns out when we arrived after a lovely night out, it turns out that they had double booked the room that we had already paid for no less!
What rubbed salt in the wound was the fact that the man who alerted us to this, seemed to think that not only was it our fault, but think that the whole ordeal was funny. It was not until past midnight that the whole thing was sorted out, and we were left to sit in the bar, waiting for him to sort the whole mess out.
I believe though that this was the stupid mistake of one man, and no fault should be placed on the owners, the only thing they're guilty of is employing some awful staff.

In the end though we did get transferred to the Alder House Hotel, which I believe is owned by the same people. This experience was much nicer with fantastic and helpful staff, who did their best to rectify a mistake made by one of their colleagues at the Gomersal.

If staying in the area I would recommend you book in at the Alder House Hotel. You'll regret it if you don't.

“John and Charmaine helped us have the wedding day of our dreams!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 October 2011

We had our wedding at Gomersal Lodge marquee on 27th August 2011 and we had the day of our dreams.
The marquee looked absolutely amazing on the day, the grounds were beautiful and having the drinks served on the lawn was a perfect start to a perfect wedding day.
John and Charmaine were fantastic from the start. Everything that was promised on the day of booking was delivered. The support they offered my husband and I was beyond any service we have ever experienced. They will do anything they can to make sure you have the wedding day of your dreams.
The day before our wedding was manic (it didn't help that my husband got v.drunk which made him fairly useless the day before our wedding-tut tut:) I was rushing about and Charmaine already busy setting up the marquee stepped into help, she chased up the dance floor and also put the finishing touches to our wedding stationary as I didn't have time. These are just a few examples of what Charmaine and John did to ensure we had a perfect day.
On the day John and Charmaine could not do enough for us and our guest. All our guests mentioned how nice and helpful they both were. John even took some of our guests to the bank when they needed some cash. I decided to say a speech and both my husband and I was nervous but the manner of John and Charmine put both of us at ease and made it a very relaxed and enjoyable experience.
We had text messages the day after from our guests saying how fantastic everything was, how nice and helpful John and Charmaine were. We really could not of asked for anymore of John and Charmaine.
The food was delicious, we had a set menu, chicken dinner and hog roast for the evening. The excellent food, professional service was absolute 1st class.
My husband and I are extremely grateful for all the help that John and Charmain did for us. We cannot thank them enough for what they gave us. People are still talking about our wedding, we had a lot going on and thanks to John and Charmaine we had the most amazing unforgettable day!
Our wedding party did not have anything to do with the hotel and it's unfair to rate the service and standards that John and Charmaine deliver to the standard of the hotel.
If we was to have our wedding day again, we would have it at Gomersal Lodge. We wouldn't change a thing, it's a fabulous venue set in beautiful grounds with two fantastic people doing all they can to deliver a service that is so rare and invaluable to give you the wedding of your dreams.
I really do hope the noise issues are resolved so John and Charmaine can continue to give people the most unforgettable experience 'the wedding of your dreams'!
The biggest thank you to John and
Charmaine. Scott and Catherine

“DIRTY ROOMS, POOR SERVICE. COULD HAVE RUINED OUR DAUGHTERS WEDDING. 1 GOMERSAL LODGE HOTEL 9 MARQUEE”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 September 2011

Regarding previous posting - was meant to say DIRTY ROOMS - not staff.

However, if my wife had not taken control of the situation on the Thursday and Friday we would have had a perfect day ruined.

We ended up with 2 new beds being delivered - in the midst of the wedding!!! We have fotos of the bed van arriving - in the back of our family wedding fotos!!!! Good job we have a stong constitution and a sense of humour!

All rooms were dirty - we had faeces around our toilet - which my wife cleaned prior to us using it.

She had several confrontations with the owner, wife, daughter and nephew prior to us leaving without paying. We did try to get the owner to meet us to negotiate, but, he would not meet us face to face - so we are putting in complaints and are trying to negotiate on an individual basis.

My wifes experience was spoilt by having to organise and control the bedrooms - in terms of appropriate occupancy and quality of cleanliness.

The so-called "honeymoon suite" was dirty, dusty and miraculously had a new bed, curtains and lamps delivered - 5pm+ on the wedding day! Oh and it was cleaned!!!!

My wife speant so much time negotiating ne squabbling with the owner and his family she missed a lot of the wedding fotos.

Fortunately she managed to keep everything away from our daughter and son in law. They did not know about the problems until Saturday pm.

THEIR DAY WAS PERFECT

Thankyou to all the guests who tolerated the poor standards provided by Gomersal Lodge Hotel,

Thankyou to the cook who did breakfast - she was the only one who knew what she was doing!!!!

We are 90% happy with the service in respect of the marquee - Problem with the issue over noise pollution - Did dampen the spirit as the youngsters did not get a chance to party. Could not fault their hospitality though. Thankyou
