“Avoid this Place!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2012

This hotel was the only disappointment during our visit to Nicaragua in November, 2011. The place has gone to seed and NO maintanence has been performed in many months. The road to the hotel was almost impassable and looked like something out of Jurassic Park. The dining room was closed, permanently, and the rooms were unsafe: Our apartment had a stove with the propane gas tank stored underneath the counter top, RIGHT NEXT TO THE OVEN!! Can you spell FIREBALL?? Numerous other plumbing and electrical conditions would be code violations anywhere on earth. Plus, no towels and NO HOT WATER!! We left immediately and stayed at Hotel Victoriana which was lovely.

Dear Mike & Barbara:

I am sad to read Parque Maritimo el Coco was your only disappointment during your visit to Nicaragua. At the moment is it difficult for me to find your reservation and look how it was done. I would like to know if the Reservation staff informed you about the road condition, the restaurant and some areas of the hotel closed by maintenance. Obviously it is a dirt road and during raining season (from July to November) is it only accessible by a 4x4 vehicle. We also did some maintenance to the restaurant (change palapa roof) and to the water and electrical system on all houses on November. We always perform the maintenance on November when the raining season has ended. If the reservation staff did not informed you about these, I apologies for it. Unfortunately there isn’t anything I can do right now.

“Lovely casita rental for a group”

I have actually stayed here twice, both times with a group of friends. The kitchen is great for saving money and cooking meals at home, but we also enjoyed the beachfront hammocks and cocktails at the restaurant!
It is worth the long bumpy ride though I would not risk it during the rainy season!! And be sure to arrange the price of your ride beforehand.
One more thing, the stingray warnings are REAL--be careful!

“Ok hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2010

This is an Ok hotel located on one of the greatest beaches in Nicaragua, playa El Coco is a must.

For regular prices you can get a quite nice cabin, with kitchen, a nice bed an a balcony or terrace, not the best design or comfort Ive seen but still a nice place to stay. From were I stayed, I only had to make a few step to the beach.

Regarding the restaurant, i suggest you rather take your own food and cook, this way you wont have to pay 20$ for a regular lunch or dinner.

“Quaint little bungalows in a beachside mini-jungle”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 August 2009

Rented one of the smallest cabins with my husband and niece, which was perfect for a couple of nights and good value for three people. Shaded patio area with chairs and hammock was a lovely touch. Cabin was well furnished and spotless, and well situated amongst the lovely jungly surroundings of the place. Outdoor shower was a plus. Great spot for birdwatching and enjoying nature when not at the beach. The beach itself is excellent, though we encountered some jellyfish. The food was okay and service was friendly, though not much selection - we expected more based on reviews. They claim to have surfboards and boogie boards for rent, but when we tried, we learned that they need a day's notice to get a surfboard for you, and all three (wow!) boogie boards were already being used, so we were out of luck.

“wonderful beach destination in southern Nicaragua”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2009

We loved our two night stay at Parque Maritimo. Luckily we took the hotel's advice and booked a 4X4 as the road from San Juan del Sur (and really so many roads in Nica) really require it. We arrived to the hotel in the mid afternoon and were escorted to our bungalow which was so cute. Complete with AC and 3 beds (2 singles and one double) it was surprisingly spacious and comfortable as it appears rather tiny from the outside. We also had access to a full kitchen complete with spring water and propane tank for the stove, as well as an dining table in the kitchen and a beautiful large one a few flights above which felt like dining in the tree tops. We were only there for a few days so we decided to mainly eat in the restaurant which had wonderfully fresh fish and lots of other options at good prices. The restaurant and bar are right on the beach so they provide a wonderful respite from sun bathing and swimming :-)
The beach is absolutely lovely and only a 3 minute walk from our bungalow although other rentals are closer if you so choose. The sand is firm and the waves strong but not scary at all, really fun to swim in all afternoon. We went at the tail end of the rainy season so it wasn't too crowded which we loved but I have a feeling even fully booked it wouldn't feel too crowded. The staff was friendly but absolutely non intrusive and we absolutely loved it. In fact, we could see this becoming a regular destination in our future.
