“So Happy We Found This Place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

Me and my husband, and our friends spontaneously, decided to go to hershey park for the weekend, rather than our regular trip to the white mountains, NH. We left, not sure where we were going. We found ourselves at the Hershey Highmeadow Campground, and I am so happy we landed here. The campground was a normal family campground, with a swimming pool, arcade, showers etc. Pennslyvania is a beautiful place, and this campground was gorgeous, surrounded by cow fields, and green grass (like no where else). The offered busses, to and from Hershey Park, and the campground, and sold tickets at the site. I was very pleased with our stay =]

“First time experience - very impressed!!!!!!”

We camped here for the first time the weekend of Oct 13 to 16, 2011. Our reservations were made back in the Spring of 2011. We were well aware of the damaging floods that occur in the Hershey area the beginning of September 2011 due to Tropical Storm Lee. We knew the area very near the campground and Hershey Park were siginificantly damaged. There were at least 4 or 5 restaurants that won't re-open until after the first of 2012. We were camping with another couple and happened to check out the website the end of September to find an announcement that the campground had been closed and would re-open on September 30th. The information mention that some amenities weren't going to be available but provisions were being taken to assist campers with their needs. The office, general store, laundry and some of the restrooms and shower facilities have been damaged. Other items like firewood, propane etc... may not be available. We sent an email to inquire about whether we were going to have picnic table and fire right, so that we were prepared upon our arrival with a folding table of our own. We received a very prompt email back advising that we would in fact have a picnic table and fire ring. When we arrived, we were absolutely amazed to find the campground in the condition that we did. Although the office was in a temporary trailer; propane and fire wood were availabe. Very clean portable trailers with showers (both men & women) and and a separate for restrooms were available in two different location throughout the campground where other facilities were out of service. The staff work diligently in cramped quarterly to check us in and provide all necessary papers with all activities including the Halloween events at the Hershey attractions. The campground was SPOTLESS, you couldn't tell that a little over a month ago it was under 7+ feet of water other than the buidlings that were currently going throught renovations. There was new grass sewn, new stones in campsites, new picnic table throughout the the campground. There is a shuttle between the campground and the Hershey Attractions that is very convenient.

People commented about the train. We made a game out of it. We counted the number of times the train, medavac helicopter and the shuttle went by or over to see which would win. We have come to accept that every campground will have some type of noise that is uncontrollable.

I highly recommend this campground. We WILL be returning.

“We Loved It!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

We stayed at Highmeadow campground in late August. I was a little nervous after reading the other reviews about the train. I took the advice and booked a site as far away from the train tracks as possible. Yes, you do hear the train 24/7 however, it really wasn't that bad. I am sure the folks staying in the cabins, which are right next to the tracks, had a hard time sleeping but we did not. I do wish they enforced quiet hours better. The rude, obnoxious people who were at the site next to us were gone all day and would return at 11 pm. Well, they acted like it was 11 in the morning!! They were so loud it was unbelievable. I wish people had more common sense and common courtesy for their fellow neighbors.

Anyway, back to the camp site. The place was great. We had planned on going to Hershey one day while we were there but there were soooo many activities for the kids they didn't even ask to go! Ongoing activities throughout the day as well as two gorgeous pools, 2 playgrounds and loads of nature fun! We were lucky enough to be there one Saturday Zoo America had someone come by with animals. The man was wonderful with the kids and the animals, which included a snake, tarantula, an adorable skunk, a horned owl and a baby alligator. The bathrooms and showers were very clean and you didn't have to pay for the showers. Whoever heard of such a thing, paying for showers?? The employees were very helpful and friendly.

All in all, we had a wonderful time. We have two kids, 10 and 7, and our friends had a 7 year old also. There wasn't one complaint the entire time we were there!

Room Tip: Keep far away from the train tracks!

“Been going for 25 years”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 September 2011

there may have been some changes over the years such as you used to be able to get wood by the armfull for a couple bucks back in the 80's but have any of you disatified campers try any of the other campgrounds such as konawago south of there , well when you do then you can rewrite your review for this place as far as the trains go all you had to do was request another site instead of complaining amongst yourselves and trust me the busses are alot better than they were back then(old school buses).

Room Tip: ask with a smile get an answer with a smile

“Great family campground.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 September 2011

Beautiful and clean family campground. bathrooms and showers very clean. Staff very friendly and helpful. We were completely rained out by bad storms that had come through, so we went to a nearby hotel. The next day we packed up our stuff and they let us keep our trailer in a holding area for free overnight and refunded us that nights stay. Which was great so we could stay at the hotel another night and not let our trip be a complete washout. This place is great too because they have 2 pools and a kiddie pool and all kinds of activities. When we were there there was a dj one night, they showed outdoor movies and they had what they call zoo America where they show and teach kids about the animals. They also will shuttle you to any Hershey attraction or property. which is good because parking is expensive at Hersey Park, however, parking for just Chocolate World is free for three hours.

Room Tip: all the sites look pretty nice and within easy walking distance of bathrooms and showers
