We stayed at Highmeadow campground in late August. I was a little nervous after reading the other reviews about the train. I took the advice and booked a site as far away from the train tracks as possible. Yes, you do hear the train 24/7 however, it really wasn't that bad. I am sure the folks staying in the cabins, which are right next to the tracks, had a hard time sleeping but we did not. I do wish they enforced quiet hours better. The rude, obnoxious people who were at the site next to us were gone all day and would return at 11 pm. Well, they acted like it was 11 in the morning!! They were so loud it was unbelievable. I wish people had more common sense and common courtesy for their fellow neighbors.
Anyway, back to the camp site. The place was great. We had planned on going to Hershey one day while we were there but there were soooo many activities for the kids they didn't even ask to go! Ongoing activities throughout the day as well as two gorgeous pools, 2 playgrounds and loads of nature fun! We were lucky enough to be there one Saturday Zoo America had someone come by with animals. The man was wonderful with the kids and the animals, which included a snake, tarantula, an adorable skunk, a horned owl and a baby alligator. The bathrooms and showers were very clean and you didn't have to pay for the showers. Whoever heard of such a thing, paying for showers?? The employees were very helpful and friendly.
All in all, we had a wonderful time. We have two kids, 10 and 7, and our friends had a 7 year old also. There wasn't one complaint the entire time we were there!
Room Tip: Keep far away from the train tracks!
