After parking (location only as valet parking) immediately experienced trouble checking in. They hand wrote my information instead of just looking it up and selecting it. My reservation was made by someone else, the front desk clerk stated they would change the name and apply my prority club points (never happened, received the bill under my door with wrong name and no points). The room was very small, dated, windows did not open and room was 79 degrees. I switched on the a/c, but by later that night I could only get it cooled to 75. Had to change rooms late in the night but it was like the front desk wouldn't beleive me since they made security come with me to verify that I couldn't adjust the system to get it any cooler. The rooms were decorated nicely, there is a nice flat screen t.v. but not in HD. I would recommend staying somewhere else.

The hotel staff are very helpful and pleasant. The hotel itself is clean. However, the heat in our room has gone out twice. First, when we checked in at 6pm. I called the front desk and they said they were working on it and to try in 20 minutes. That worked until 4 this am. I called the front desk at 730 and they offered to send someone up. It is 730 in the am, my room is 63 degrees and Im in my pj"s. Not really in the mood for someone to look at the heat. Also last night around 9pm, a birthday party on the 3rd floor sent off the smoke alarms so we had to evacuate. About 10 minutes after returning to our room the front desk called to say we didn't have to leave. Overall, hotel is nice but not a place I would stay again.

I really did start to believe some of these reviews regarding the hotel. I ended up getting it with the Priceline bid. I figured that, even if it does suck, it did only cost me 100 dollars. I arrived and knew about the valet charge. It is a bit high, but you are having your car underground at the hotel with no one able to access the garage unless you are valet. It was quick and easy. This hotel was built in the 50s. I could not believe how stylish the hotel was. They put a lot of money into it. The lobby and common areas were in great shape and looked great. The room was just as nice. Yes, the rooms and bathrooms are not the largest, but I have stayed in many big name hotels in other cities that the rooms were the same size, if not smaller. We never felt cramped. The shower was great, and we had no problems with the water pressure. The beds were, I believe, the most comfortable that I have ever slept in before. I have never been to a place that had so many sheets on it. I am not one who stays in Days Inn's and considers this to be the only time I have been to a nice place. I stay at large upper class hotels a lot of the time, and this place certainly does not deserve the bad ratings it has been getting. My furniture was in great shape as well. The elevators were very fast. One of the coolest things was the rooftop fitness center. It had a great view of the river and the equipment was excellent. Even if I paid full price, which is usually no more than 110 a night, I would definitely come back. By the way, Valet had my car in two minutes while leaving in the busy morning. Excellent all around.

I guess the great location is the reason this hotel is rated so highly on various sites - it is certainly not the quality of the hotel. I will say the front desk staff is very nice and helpful, but the rooms are tiny (especially the bathrooms). I was here by myself on business and felt cramped, I couldn't imagine sharing this room with another! The hotel is located on a busy street, and I had a great deal of trouble sleeping with all of the noise (traffic, sirens associated with the adjacent hospital). I was on the fourth floor right above second street, so this may not be a problem if you are located higher or not directly on the street. The bed was fairly comfortable, and a flat screen was in my room, with HBO. You also must pay for daily valet parking, which I am used to in large cities, but rather surprised to find in Harrisburg. The room air conditioning was extremely noisy.
I ran out of hot water on a daily basis - pretty ridiculous that a hotel would not have adequate hot water - had to take two cold showers during my stay!!
The service from the valet's ranged from friendly to downright rude, depending on who you got.
