This place is a jewel. The feelings we have for Shining Dawn are ones of gratitude, sweetness, beauty and relaxation. Allow me to start from the beginning.

My husband and I were on vacation and had booked all our stays well in advance. Upon arriving to Shining Dawn and knocking, it was quickly realized that we had made reservations for the WRONG DAY. I cannot explain to you the horror of realizing you have no reservations because you messed up the date for booking. The owners were nothing but kind, assuring us that the place was ready anyway and we were more than welcome to stay. We were beyond embarrassed... ashamed, frantic, all of the above! But the place was breathtaking. You can't help but fall in love, and the owners are so accommodating! She showed us to our room, The Phoenix, which was just so cool. It's a small room but features two bright, sunny windows and a nice bathroom--all of which have been completely updated and renovated. The place was super clean--not a thing I could point out was wrong. The rest of the place is again--just so stunning. Stain glass windows, mosaic floors, antiques, a room full of windows for dining, a fireplace and chandelier... beautiful. In the morning, our owner fixed us an incredible breakfast. We had a steaming hot baked apple with granola (to die for), coffee, orange juice, pancakes, sausage and eggs. Wow, what a meal! We were stuffed! All this, and he managed to do it with an injured hand. I mean, really, how much more spectacular can you get? Oh! One last thing, this place has clocks that chime and it sounds like church bells ringing softly. All the tunes that were played really lent to the magical feel of the place. We found it very hard to leave such a pretty, relaxing place with two sweet, wonderful people. They were such a blessing on a bad day!! Please, do yourself a favor--stay at Shining Dawn. You can't beat the price, the food, the hospitality or the beauty of it all!

You had a very busy vacation itinerary planned and we were just one stop along the way. Travel is usually very stressful. We are always happy to be able to accommodate our guests and to be flexible whenever possible. You were very nice folks to meet and host and we really enjoyed your stay as much as you enjoyed staying with us! Just one point, there is off-street parking available directly across the street behind our Inn. We also have a limited number of covered, secure parking spots available in our Carriage House. Guests who attend local car shows with their pride-and-joy vehicles, or guests staying with us during inclement weather as well as motorcycle enthusiasts have all found our Carriage House to be a nice alternative to parking on the street or in the lot directly behind us. Thank you so much for choosing to stay with us at Shining Dawn. If you're ever in the area, please consider coming back to stay with us again.

“First B&B stay won't be beat”

This was my first time at a B&B and I could not believe how wonderful it was.We took a chance and booked the last room that had a bath tub no shower. A giant claw foot tub in our spacious Midsummer's Night Dream Room with a balcony too. And a special effect after you turn out the lights. The home is magnificent with stained glass windows, a fountain room and delicious breakfast. The hosts are congenial and it is a great location for Gettysburg and York area.Recommend it highly.

“Our Favorite B&B!!!”

My husband and I have stayed at Shining Dawn several times, and love it more and more. It is a great place to celebrate special occassions such as birthdays and anniversaries as well as weekend getaways. The home and rooms are beautifully kept. Clean, comfortable, and full of stained glass windows. Helen and Bruce are wonderful hosts and very attentive. I feel pampered and at home at the same time. I can't wait for our next visit!

“"Immaculate; Delicious Breakfast"”

Great location if you are going to the Maryland wine festival. The B & B is a historic home and decorated in period. Beautiful stained glass windows. My room was immaculate as was the entire home. Bruce and Helen are gracious hosts and made us feel welcome. Helen's breakfast was absolutely delicious. The town is small & quiet. Not may resturants to choose from. We ate at The Landing, the food was good. Everything is closed on Sunday morning. Historic areas are a short ride away. Would go back

We're happy that you and your friends enjoyed your stay at Shining Dawn in Hanover, PA. With a population of just over 15,000, Hanover definitely has small town culture with many conveniences of Corporate American businesses located in or near the borough. However, we are still able to enjoy unique choices and experiences offered by many locally owned and operated businesses like "The Landing" which you've mentioned. While it is true that some of our local businesses are closed one day a week, usually Sunday or Monday, there is still a lot to do if you have the time to slow down, relax, explore and enjoy. We're always happy to make suggestions to our guests.

“First rate all the way”

Helen and Bruce are delightful hosts.

We opted for "The Phoenix" room, it was very well appointed and oh so comfy and cozy.

We stayed four nights and each morning we were greeted with an exciting and delicious breakfast. Helen is a magician with fruit, her rum and brown sugar grapefruit, the baked apple and hot pear were all so scrumptous. Bruce's yogurt parfait was "lick the glass" yummy!

The location is so convenient, maybe a thirty minute drive to York and Gettysburg. We found Hanover to be a very quaint little town.

The home is filled with history. We would highly recommend the Shining Dawn, you won't be disappointed.
