“Obscene Language!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

I attended a class at the Holiday Inn, to say the least I was appalled at some of their staff and now I am even more shocked by the management of the Holiday Inn. I have reported and forwarded all my emails and phone call logs to the corporate Holiday Inn. A manager replied to me from the Grantville, Holiday Inn, I described staff he asked me for other details and we corresponded several times then after I had not received any follow up, I contacted another manager who now has told me the original manager is no longer with the company. The new manager said sorry and they are training the staff. Language and manner training? Etiquette?
Here is what I witnessed and the actual email I sent to the manager.

I attended a business meeting last Thursday at your hotel, I
have been there for a few other meetings over the past several years.
I was going over the days event and schedule in the morning prior to
the start of the day, I was seated in the adjacent area to where the
meeting I was attending was being held, I was disturbed by the staff's
conversations.  I overheard how a room was not being used because "a
wall was caving the hell in" and how they had to move a breakfast and
how they were not able to find a manager and how "f'd up" the hotel
is.   I was concerned, was this the meeting I was attending, did I need
to move my supplies?   Why was vulgar language being spoken in common
areas?
I wanted to share my thoughts and I truly hope that the staff that is
working at the "f'd up" hotel finds a way to improve their language
or seeks reassignment.

“Like an oven in the dead of summer!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

We stayed there in July when we visited Hersheypark. The temp was 90 degrees out and when we got into our room, we found that the A/C had not been turned on all day. The room was like an oven! We turned on the A/C, only to find out that it didn't work, so we baked all night! All of the ice machines in the entire hotel were out of order. At 10:00 p.m. (right after we checked in), I asked for ice to be sent up to our room from the bar. 3 Hours and 5 phone calls later, my ice finally arrived! They even tried telling me that someone knocked on my door with the ice, but I had never left the room (nor did my wife and 2 kids)! After one of the phone calls, they said that someone would be right up (this was after they said they knocked once before). I actually waited in the hallway outside my room for 20 minutes and nobody came! What a horrible experience!

“needs to fix housekeeping issues”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

I would have loved to give this hotel a better rating, but the horrible condition of the room's cleanliness overcomes this hotels good points. It's a nice hotel, older and a bit worn, but it has great food and is great for conventions. I have attended conventions there for several years and must say that this is the first time I have had a real problem other than wear and tear issues. I will recommend the Nachos in the bar restaurant - awesome! The convention food served buffet style was interesting (good variety) and quite good.
But nothing can oversome my horror at the room condition. It wasn't vacuumed, washcloths were dirty (actual dirt), towels all crumpled, old coffee filter in coffee maker, no coffee, no soap, sticky stains on dresser top. After I finally decided to go to the front desk, they did send someone up to clean and bring new linens. Unfortunatly, he dropped the new towels on the floor in the bathroom next to the toilet, so I made do with the best of the old ones and a prayer. But he did vacuum, and later brought soap when I realized ther wasn't any. What this room needed though was a thorough cleaning. Even after vacuuming, I went to use ths bathroom and shut the door.....there was enough hair behind the door that I thought a tumbleweed might soon form. Maybe the housekeeper was interupted before she finished, but...it's a shame that this decent hotel has left a bad feel with me. I'm not sure what they need to do, but it's unacceptable for a Holiday Inn. And we won't even go into the stain in the center of the chair.
Oh- but the bed had clean, fresh linens and was super comfy. It became my island.

Room Tip: PIck a lower floor, the elevator is very slow.

“"Fair" hotel, somewhat overpriced considering it's condition”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

Luckily I read some of the posts before opting to stay here. Although, the comments were somewhat accurate, but the hotel was not a "dump." I can see that if you arrived expecting a Holiday Inn Express or a newer property, that one would be disappointed. But as with most older Holiday Inn's it could use some refreshing. I opted to stay due to the bar in the hotel and the free shuttle to the casino. The rooms were somewhat musty, but not dirty and the bathroom fixtures were clean, but obviously not new. These things being the case, a discounted rate is in order, but not forthcoming.

The check-in was fast and easy, and my reservation was already filled out when I got there. I asked about the shuttle to the casino, and was told that it was available upon request. They pretty much use the hotel van to take you back and forth. The casino is only about 1/2 mile away, but still too far after a few drinks. The service runs, on call, until 1:30am. Which is a very good deal.

The bar is country and western fare, with mostly 20s and early 30s crowd. My wife and I are in our 40s, but we still enjoyed the live band. The only down side is that everyone one there seemed to know all the "house" line dances for EVERY song. So if you don't frequent that bar, you may be out of luck for couples dancing until the crowd thins out after midnight. The bar has last call at 1:30am.

Overall an "average" stay. The hotel definitely could use a face lift, but the hotel staff was very nice and accommodating. The main bonus for me was proximity to the casino and the on-site bar.

Room Tip: Lower floors seem to be more maintained. 4th floor is the smoking floor.

“A convenient stay for a family reception”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

The reviews for this Holiday Inn made me not book initially for our 2 night stay to attend a cousin's wedding reception. But then family suggested we stay here since the reception would be held at this location. It worked out really well that we stayed ... the room was clean and comfortable - though a little noisy at times ... kids seemed to run up and down the halls all day & night - but that is really more the fault of the parents than the hotel.

Check-in was painfully slow - as was about anything else in the hotel or restaurant. The reception food was good ... the restaurant too - just slow service. It was like they had one person at the front desk, one waiter in the restaurant - in a country where people need jobs ... this place only seems to employ a handful of people ... perhaps they should think about hiring some more people to help those who stay and the economy as well.
