We were driving from Montreal Canada to Madison WI and had to stop en route. This was a spontaneous pick. The hotel is located in an area with about 5 lodging options within 1 mile so competition may explain why it's surprisingly good. We needed a good bed, a breakfast if possible and a good value. We found all 3 at the Days Inn Erie. This was the best priced hotel in the area (and about 50% of the Holiday Inn rate in the town we stopped 15 minutes ago). Check-in was smooth. I negotiated a discount because of a slight problem with the key to one of our rooms and we got the AAA rate. This is a straightforward, no-frills, no bells, no whistles kind of place. Rooms were basic but comfortable; could definitely use some refreshing. You do not stay at this place for the art on their walls or their organic eco-friendly bed sheets.
High speed internet was working well and the beds were ample and comfy. The real surprise, however, came in the morning when we got down to eat breakfast. There were several hot breakfast options (eggs, sausages, pancakes, etc.) in addition to the typical bagels, buns, jams, cereals and fruits. Even my sister who's usually very picky about food, found a thing or two to her liking. We all filled up and had a good start of the day which we spent driving to Madison! Good job Days Inn!
