My family and I were traveling to Knobel's(which was BEAUTIFUL) for the first time to celebrate our 2 year old's birthday. I had contacted Liz & Fred from the Plum Pudding Inn they informed me they also own a large two bedroom cottage which was available. We were thrilled and booked it. We were stuck in traffic forever..and didn't get to Elysburg until close to midnight..and with a 2,3 and 6 year old that's a bit of a nightmare in itself. We just wanted to get to the cottage and relax. We arrived at the Plum Pudding Inn paid for our 2 nights upfront and Fred took us over to the cottage. As soon as we pulled up I was shocked at how unkempt the walkway and out door area was, as we walked in Fred informed us the outside was "Asbestos Tile!!???" It was so late we just wanted to get inside. We walk in and the smell of mildew beats you over the head then you notice the stained carpet & furnishings, and finally the mismatched stained sheets hanging from the windows The curtain in the front room that was furnished with an out dated couch and a large broken TV had what looked like a large uncleaned vomit stain all over the bottom of the curtain. We kept that door closed to try to keep the children away. There was no bathroom on the first floor. We went upstairs to see the bedrooms and the bathroom..the bathroom was actually pretty clean (although the toilet was broken) the two bedrooms were large one with a queen bed and a bunk bed the other with a twin bed and another bunk bed. These rooms had sheets hanging from the windows, broken air conditioners with no knobs, dirty carpets, and filthy old mismatched bedding. At this point we were all really upset and incredibly grossed out, but had to try to make the best of it. Luckily I had one set of sheets with us and I put them on the cleanest looking bed so our two oldest could try to get some sleep, and was crying and just praying that they would not get bitten by BEDBUGS!! After they were asleep I tried calling all the other local hotels..they were all booked! As I was in the room with the queen bed I sat down the I looked at the sheets they were COVERED in HAIR!!! I was horrified!! We take the baby downstairs and we are all freaking out we couldn't sleep the baby (who's birthday was the next day) would not sleep and was up until 4am. My husband kind of slept sitting up in a dining room chair against a wall. I put several towels down on the couch and laid next to the babies pack and play..it was a NIGHTMARE I cried most of the night..this was our first family vacation and I felt it was ruined:( Fred had told us he would have breakfast foods in the fridge ( which was surprisingly clean) there were eggs, juice, and bacon. I made the bacon which was fine but when I scrambled the eggs I needed to throw them away because they were not at all fresh..which was just the "perfect" end to our stay. We obviously were not going to stay the whole weekend so we had to cut our vacation in half and leave a day early. This filthy disgusting hovel ruined our first vacation.. and I would NOT recommend this place to my worst enemy. I guess it would be ok for a bunch of teenagers to hang out in, but it is absolutely NOT for a family with young children. One thing I do need to say is Fred and Liz are very nice people and I feel bad I have to give such an awful review but I would hate for any other family to go through what we did. Trust me STAY AWAY but if you choose to stay there..remember you were warned!
