“Mondays just don't make sense if they don't start with a little Mere and Miz”

I live about an hour away from Eagles Mere and have come to the conclusion that it's ALWAYS worth the drive. I heard about the Inn through some friends this summer and took my first trip up in June. Since then, I've been going every chance I get. Especially on Mondays when they have Mike Miz playing :) It's hard to figure out where to start, but I'll start with the food. It's amazing. Everything I've had has tasted so delicious and fresh and is always so satisfying. I've tried almost everything on the menu and a few things that aren't and have been impressed every time. I'm craving their chicken sanwich right now haha. The menus great because they have alot of things you really can't get most places. Where else can you get duck cracklin? Or the English Bulldog? Or sweet potato hash for breakfast? Hell yeah. And of course when I think of great food, I think of great beer. And they certainly have alot of that. Their beer list is extensive and has something everyone can enjoy. Some of the beers mentioned in the book 'World's Best Beers: One Thousand Craft Brews from Cask to Glass' by Ben McFarland are on the list. Pretty impressive. But, for the less adventurous (who will never get to savor a Geuze), they carry the standard mass-produced crap for them too. Although, as their rule list jokes, a Coores will cost you extra. The overall atmosphere at the Inn is very comfortable, a little classy, and shared with truly great, interesting, and friendly people both on the staff and just passing through. It seems like the room just radiates positivity. Every time I've been there I've found myself having refreshing, solid conversations with people from so many different places and at different stages in their lives. Some of my favorite memories of this summer happened at Eagles Mere.. Sitting with my best friends talking to a middle-aged couple from Canada on a romantic motorcycle tour across the country and sampling a variety of expensive drinks with them, smoking cigarettes and having heart to hearts with strangers about the future out on the hammock, swimming in the scenic lake at dusk, and of course the time the owner, Toby, cleared the tables in the pub out of the way so everyone could dance barefoot in the middle of the room.. all so good. Toby and everyone who works there is so hospitable, friendly, good at what they do, and do everything to make sure you have a great time. Basically, if you haven't been there yet, you're missing out on some good food, good friends, and good times. you need to make a point to check out the Eagles Mere Inn.

“You will never want to leave!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 August 2011

The chef prepared 5 course meals that would rival any notable 5 star restaurant, the staff was not only welcoming, knowledgeable, but extremely accommodating to all guests, the establishment was extremely clean and inviting, and I have never seen a greater selection of the world’s finest beers anywhere in any establishment. For an Inn Keeper to take such pride in making so many beers available – just imagine what pride is put into preparing the meals using only the freshest ingredients – not to mention all that is involved with making the inn a place where everyone and anyone can enjoy. Luxury is in the details that are not overlooked here

Room Tip: Room 16 is a great size with a wonderful bath

“An Amazing Getaway in a Great Inn”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 August 2011

This is an amazing little inn just four hours from DC but in another world. It is in a little town, Eagles Mere, called the town time forgot. The perfect weekend getaway.
Eagles Mere is a small, turn of the 20th century town with lots of victorians around a lake that is drinking water quality. The entire lake is surrounded by a nature preserve with a beach at one end and a boat launch at the other.
The Inn itself has amazing food and service, in a comfortable, relaxed setting, just a block from the lake. There are no houses or inns on the lake itself.
Toby and his team fall all over themselves to make everything just right, but still manage to set a quiet, easy going tone.
If you're looking for hiking, swimming, boating and slow walks in the woods in amazing natural beauty, this one comes highly recommended.
The fall weekend is our favorite time. The leaves are stunning!

“Not a great place to stay”

Not a great place to stay.
The food was adequate not gourmet...as advertised.
The rooms were insignificant. The Lake was small and far away.
The Inn was situated at the low end of town surrounded by garages.
The below pretty much sums up my experience.

I find it interesting the innkeeper named his pub The Blind Pig.
The term "blind pig" originated in the United States in the 19th century; it was applied to lower-class establishments that sold alcoholic beverages illegally.
The difference between a speakeasy and a blind pig was that a speakeasy was usually a higher-class establishment that offered food and entertainment...But a "Blind Pig" was usually a low-class dive where only beer and liquor were offered.
***speakeasy & blind pig references taken from Wikipedia.

Okay.......I'm not sure, did you actually stay here? Which room did you stay in?
The lake is four hundred paces from our front door, just like our website explains.

I don't know what "the low end of town means", but we are not surrounded by garages.

We are the only restaurant in the county that actaully prepares all of the food from scratch, using only the finest local ingredients.
I wish you could have also included the wikipedia definition of "gourmet" so we could have some solid, 100% reliable information on which we could base that discussion.

And finally.......I named it the "blind pig pub" with consideration of the several different guests who thought we should go with an old fashioned speakeasy feel, which has gone over really well thus far.
Considering the new "facts" you uncovered from your research, I can see why you questioned my decision to go with that name, but it wasn't meant to be taken so wikipedially literal. I apologize for the confusion and disappointment you must have felt when you realized it wasn't a low-class dive and that we do have fine food and quality entertinment.
At least you know where not to go in the future, and I would hope you would tell your friends as well.
Thanks for your "honest feedback"!

“The most relaxing vacation ever!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 August 2011

The owner is a chef and the breakfast and dinner were included in the price. The food was amazing! The people in the Inn and the people in the town were very friendly and we felt so very welcome by everyone. We took a boatride around the lake and we swam in the lake. We took walks and we felt safe. We will definately go there again next year for this very relaxing vacation.
