“Clean, but small and extremely loud”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

I have always had good luck with the Marriott chain, so I was expecting a consistent experience with this property. This Fairfield, however, was not like other Fairfield locations I've stayed in previously, and I don't mean that in a good way. It wasn't any less expensive than other Fairfield Inns, though, so I feel it was not a good value.

All of the doors open outside, not into a hallway. I admit I should have checked, but it never occurred to me that a Marriott property would have a motel-type setup. A room key card was required to access the elevator, so I felt safe in my room on the second floor, but it was absolutely freezing for a long walk to the room with all of my luggage. Having the room door as an exterior door also ensured I heard all of the traffic from the main road. It also impacted parking, as everyone on the first floor parked directly in front of their room, taking up all of the parking spaces close to the building. The parking lot was quite dark, so I would have rather parked closer than I was actually able to.

The room, while incredibly clean, was also too small. It's almost too small for a couple, even. The room had one of the tiniest bathrooms I have ever seen in any accommodations anywhere and the sink was outside of the bathroom door. The tub/shower also had some sort of "scald guard" which was supposed to be a safety feature, I imagine, but in reality only served to limit the amount of hot water accessible.

The room had an old wall heater that did not work properly. Although I had the heater set on a constant temperature all night, the room alternated between freezing and roasting. The heater also made this maddening tick-tick-tick noise the entire time it was turned on. When I called the front desk to ask to have it looked at, the front desk clerk suggested I unplug the unit and then plug it back in. When I looked at the unit, however, the plug was not accessible.

The staff was really friendly, but limited. Getting them to answer the phone at the front desk was an iffy proposition, and each time I was at the front desk it was a ghost town. I had the impression they were a bit short-handed. There was also no business center; just a computer in the lobby where anyone could see everything you were doing.

Kudos to the cleaning staff, though! My room was spotless.

Room Tip: Ask for a room not facing the highway. Rooms on the first floor open directly onto the parking lot.

“Fine Stay in Cranberry, PA - Fairfield”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 January 2012

One night stay but was very nice. Near shopping, food (fast food and fine dining); easy access to PA Turnpike, Highway 79 into Pittsburgh. Beautiful room with all features expected. Snug room and very comfortable beds. More than I expected, actually. BTW, the fresh cookie aroma in the Lobby was oh, so attracting, as well as they were super tasty. Wal-mart, Costco, Target and a multiple of other shopping establishments within two miles of this Hotel.

Room Tip: They provide an above average self service breakfast, lots of coffee as well as coffee in the room.

“Not what I expected for a Fairfield”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 December 2011

This hotel definitely did not meet my expectations of a Fairfield Inn. At every other Fairfield Inn, I have found a pleasant room with a modest level of luxury. This room was straight out of a 1950's motel - the door opened to the parking lot, not into a hallway - the room was small with a clothes rod rather than a closet - the sink was in the bedroom rather than being in the bathroom. This reminded me of what you would see in a movie where teenagers rented a cheap hotel for their first encounter!

Although very spartan and sterile, the room and bathroom were definitely clean.

The staff was friendly. Although, they did lose my reservation. My co-worker's reservation was not lost; his room rate was $115/night. My room (with out a reservation since mine was lost!) was charged at $85/night.

Breakfast was about what you would expect for a free breakfast. Okay, but nothing to be desired. The typical selection of scrambled eggs, pre-packaged sausage biscuits, gravy, yogurt, modest fruit selection.

Do be aware that they roll-up the sidewalks in this town after 9:00 pm. We pulled into town around 10:00 pm on a Sunday night. Our dinner choices were Denny's and the Wendy's drive-thru.

“A very comfy bed”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 December 2011

After driving 10 hours on our way home, we stopped at Fairfield Inn. My husband went to the exercise room when we arrived, and after using the treadmill for quite a while had to walk outside with his sweaty body in the freezing cold to get back to the elevator - that was a really strange set-up, and surely can't be healthy especially in the winter months. The room was very clean, and after a long day of driving, the bed was soooooo comfy.
The breakfast offering was very good, and the hotel was in the middle of lots of restaurants. The girl at the front desk was very friendly.

“Don't do it!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2011

This was one of my worst experiences with a hotel, and the worst of all for a Marriott property! The only good thing about this hotel was the front desk staff. The first room I was given had an extremely strong chemical smell...as though it had just been fumigated. When I went back to the desk to complain and request a new room, the gentleman commented that he had another complaint about that specific room earlier and would "close it out for the night". Good idea. My new room didn't smell, but was not much better. It was very run-down and the bathroom had obviously not been cleaned properly. I always take Clorox wipes with me to wipe off the light switches, doorknobs, tv remote and bathroom counter. Usually they are clean. This time, however, was disgusting and there was apparently a very hairy gentleman in this room prior to me... As I was exhausted and fed-up, I slept in my clothes with a towel over the pillow. One more thing...the heaters/airconditioners are the "window wall" type. It was very noisy and I ended up just turning the crazy thing off to get some peace and quiet.
I did not have anything to eat for the breakfast the next morning but there was a selection of fruit, yougurt, oatmeal, muffins and sausage-egg biscuits available. I spoke to the woman at the desk to complain, was credited for the room and took my smelly self out of there to just get home asap for a shower, food and a clean bed. This was very unusual, in my experience, for a Marriott property and I hope that this location gets a renovation soon!
