“What a great experience!”

A warm welcome by the staff is just the start of your experience at Gateway Lodge. Everything from the yummy food, to the spa, right down to the comfy room is such a warm, welcoming environment. If you like to hike the staff can even point out some of their favorite trails as well. This is a great escape if your looking to relax and take a load off. Thanks so much to the great staff which made our stay so enjoyable!!

Room Tip: I would recommend any of the suites. They are quite romantic and cozy.

“Relaxing get-away”

We had another relaxing 2 night stay at the Gateway Lodge. We have stayed here several times over the years, always with a good experience. If you book a room, you need to be aware there are several VERY small rooms in the original lodge part, some with shared bath. The huge addition where we always stay has quite a few "suites", many with king beds (but not all so if that is important to you, ask). The suite is a somewhat large room, with a corner jacuzzi, gas fireplace and loveseat. We find it very cozy! There is a separate, decent size full bathroom. 2 robes are also provided, as well as a welcome basket of snacks and a mini refrig. They are now strict about not bringing your own alcohol, so be advised! By visitors' request, 5 of the rooms now have a flat screen TV. WHY anyone comes to the woods to watch TV is beyond me!! But if you need a TV, ask for one of those rooms! The Library/ billiard room has a large TV so if you want to catch up on some news you can always go there.
This is a lodge, so there is a lot of very nice, casual, comfy, well maintained furniture and wood everywhere! We love the atmosphere, but if you are looking for something fancy, this is not the place. If you love nature, the woods, relaxing by the wonderful woodburning fireplace in the lovely great room, you'll enjoy the Gateway Lodge. They do have WiFi in the great room, if you are interested. We enjoyed our breakfast both mornings, and dinner both nights. Service at dinner was a tad slow, but what's the hurry anyway! If you are lucky, the award winning Cream of Wild Mushroom soup will be on the menu. I don't even like mushrooms, but after tasting my husband's the first night I had to order it the second night! DEEElicious!! The dessert menu was a little disappointing to my sweet tooth, but I didn't need those calories after that rich creamy soup anyway!
Without a doubt, we will be back again!

Room Tip: 2nd floor you won't hear the footsteps above you, like you may on the first floor.

“Great place to escape!!”

We just returned from our 2nd visit to the Gateway Lodge. Last year we stayed only one night ,which wasn't long enough, so we returned this January for 3 nights. This time we brought friends. Jackie treated us like family with warmth and good humor! We really enjoyed the Friday night wine reception and I enjoyed the complimentary chair massage while the reception was going on. After a delicious breakfast Saturday morning, I plunked myself down on one of the sofas by the fire and relaxed for most of the day. While relaxing on the couch I was offered a hand massage with a delightful lotion.....such pampering!! Once again we had a wonderful dinner with our friends in the restaurant and then retreated to our suite for a peaceful evening. On Sunday we actually left the lodge and took a beautiful walk in the snow. I LOVE the atmosphere and enjoyed meeting some of the other guests. We had a wonderful stay and I would definitely recommend it to anyone needing a quiet retreat!!

Room Tip: We stayed in a suite above the conference center our first time and it was VERY large (We were told...

“Feels like home”

We have now gone to the Gateway Lodge three times in the last 1 ½-2 years, this last time during the Christmas season. It is our go-to place when we need to get away from the rat race for awhile and just relax. The rooms are spacious and functional; it’s a rustic lodge, not a 5 star hotel, so the rooms aren’t particularly plush, but they are fine. I understand that there are some smaller rooms upstairs; the rooms we have been in are large, with a Jacuzzi, gas fireplace, and balcony. Our bed was a huge, comfortable, hand carved oak sleigh bed. The Tiffany –style lamp over the (uncomfortable) French bistro table and chairs seems a bit out of place, but there is a loveseat near the fireplace that is quite comfortable. The bathroom is large and functional; the make up mirror is appreciated. Chocolate truffles sprinkled with sea salt were delivered to the door each evening. On Friday night there was a complimentary wine reception. Saturday afternoon there was a complimentary tea. Breakfast, as always, was excellent. Vegetarian choices are always on the menus. This last visit we were there for a wine pairing dinner, which was excellent. The Wine Director spoke about each of the wines, and this time the menu (which we were encouraged to take along) had each wine listed, which was a nice touch.
Because it was Christmas time, the Lodge was decorated with a huge 25 or so foot tree in the great room and what looked to be vintage decorations, lighted poinsettias, and greens throughout. The decorations really set a nice tone throughout the lodge. The band on New Year’s Eve was terrific; it felt like we were in our living room with a bunch of friends (none of whom we knew before this weekend) listening to music. (And you haven’t lived until you have heard a U2 song sung bluegrass style!) And that is what is so appealing to us about this place; it feels like we are home. If we aren’t through with our coffee at breakfast, we just take it with us. If we want a beer or glass of wine at any time, we can stop in at the bar, get it, and then head to the great room and the fireplace to sink into the most comfortable couches I have ever sat on. The weather hasn’t been great each time we stayed there, so we have spent a lot of time sitting in front of the fire, reading and talking. If you want a place to relax, this is a good choice.

“The Best Gift”

Instead of buying jewelry, clothes, or other "stuff" for Christmas, our gift to each other was to get away for a few days. A friend suggested Gateway Lodge. From the moment we were welcomed at the front desk by Jackie, aka Wilson, we knew we made the perfect choice! Jackie escorted us to our beautiful room & reminded us of the afternoon tea.(do not miss this treat: fruit, cookies, coffee, tea). Dinners & breakfasts were fantastic & so was the staff. They catered to our every want or need! During our stay we each had a massage by Edith, who made sure we relaxed,(highly recommend). The great room with massive Christmas tree and warm fireplace kept us cozy while we read books. We also realized how poorly we play pool! It rained the entire time we were there, but we didn't even care! Thanks for a great time!!

Room Tip: Room 305 was nice & quiet, close to great room & close enough to dining room. Room also had...
