We wwere returning to VA and had a reservation at this place- it's about 3 hrs N of ours. We decided to cancel the reservation and go home, so I tried to call the hotel on the mobile – no dice. Therefore, we had to stop to cancel the res. When we went in, my spouse asked if they had a pool - the desk guy said yes, a nice indoor pool. He apologized for his computer and phone system being out (hence the trouble getting through). So, we decided to stay and have a short drive the next day. We rested, then my spouse went to look at the pool – she found three guys in respirators and what looked like hazmat suits working in the pool area, a big sign said it was closed for cleaning! Hmmm.
Next, we asked about dinner. The desk guy said the steakhouse at the place next door was good. We walked over, went in and found a small group of sweaty people eating hot food in the dim place – their air conditioning had gone out. No dice.
Back at the desk, we asked about another place near by – preferably not a chain. He suggested a small restaurant attached to a convenience store/beer store about a mile away. OK. We get there – a well-worn establishment apparently not much changed since the war in Vietnam. We sit down, order wine, look over the menu – and a guy behind me starts winking at my spouse. He kept it up for quite awhile. Strange. As we left, we learned he was a contractor for some firm nearby, there on an extended assignment. Go figure.
The complimentary breakfast the next morning was very interesting - containing frozen and pre-prepared food I had never seen. However, the fruit an dcereal were fine. The rooms are clean, new and adequately quiet.
Room Tip: Choose a room on the side away from I-81. Park where there is shade in the AM.

Thank you for choosing to stay with us at the Holiday Inn Express Chambersburg PA. We appreciate your business and apologize for the inconveniences that you endured during your stay.
Our hotel has just finished a complete renovation with new technologies, wall paper, furniture, and lighting. With these new features hopefully our computers and phone systems will not affect another guest as it did you. Sorry for that issue.
As part of our renovations we have put work into our pool, but our regular schedule of cleaning will not change. We do a full clean in and out of the pool to make every asset of this amenity safe and enjoyable for all, and in most cases it is opened immediately after the clean.
I am sorry that we did not accommodate you with an acceptable place to eat during your stay with us. We do try and get the recommendations of our guests about their eating experience. The restaurant up the hill has since closed, and we thank you for your honest opinion about the second establishment that you ate at.
The breakfast held here at the hotel is standard to Holiday Inn Express and we are sorry that you were not pleased with our selection other than the cereal and fruit. We are looking into different serving styles to make it more appetizing for guests like your-self. We do have our signature Holiday Inn Express Pancake Machine that makes fresh pancakes in two minutes.
Thank you for your candid suggestions.
We do pride ourselves in our service, cleanliness, and our attention to details, and again do apologize for the inconveniences that you incurred. It is suggestions like yours that enable us to grow and learn and for this we thank you. Please come again and see all of our new changes.
