“Every room stinks”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

Upon arrival they gave a room on the 3rd floor. While going up the elevator, you can smell the place like a ghetto. When I got to the room and open the door.....boy that smell took me by surprise. I knew that's not the room I wanted to stay in, the bed sheets were ripped and towels were probably never replaced since 1990. I go to the front desk and asked to be transferred to a better room. The lady at front said all the rooms are the same, but I insisted that there is no way I could stay in the room. She agreed to give another room, but she was right. Although the bed sheets were not torn, the smell was there.

This was by far the worst hotel I stayed in. I spend $95/night, but I would recommend spending $20 more and get a descent hotel to stay in.

Dear Ashish T,

I recently received a copy of your review of the Extended Stay America Pittsburgh - Carnegie. Our company prides itself on providing great service and great rooms at great rates, which is why I was so disappointed to read your post. Please accept my most sincere apologies.

I do appreciate the opportunity to address your concerns about the condition of your room. Please know that we have strict quality control standards that are meant to prevent a situation like yours from occurring. All rooms are regularly cleaned and disinfected upon a guest's checkout as well as during applicable periods of the stay, then inspected by a manager who determines if it meets our quality standards. Obviously, your experience indicates that our system broke down. In response, I have met with hotel management and staff to find out why and to determine a system for preventing a repeat occurrence.

Additionally, I understand your concerns about the condition of the towels and sheets in the room. It is not common that we get feedback like this, and though it is discouraging to read, it will make our hotel even better in the future. I have also discussed this with the hotel management team.

Thanks again for your comments, and please feel free to reach out to our hotel directly should you have any further concerns.

“Gross and very Remote, Stay here only if want to hide out from civilization!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 October 2011

Guess the owner bought this land for cheap, very REMOTE!!!
I travel for a living, stayed in several hotels. This hotel left a bad taste in my mouth and makes me want to get of the road...
Booked to stay here for 1 month business trip. Checked out after the 1st night....
1. Yes hotel is off highway, but some odd reason, not accessible. You have to go through a town, industrial area, and residential area, before you arrive. Thank goodness for GPS!
2. Non-smoking rooms, yeah right. You can smell cigarette, in the rooms, on every floor at every corner..
4. The room, smell musty, bed hard, shower filthy, blood on toilet seat. I am embarrass to say. I did even bother to shower. I bolted..
3. Good luck if want to find somewhere to eat-NOTHING! around..
12 mins to downtown...

“Ok for the price.... repeat visitor.”

Good for the kitchenette, possible to cook. ...however, there isn't any easy shopping nearby, just a crowded small town. Non-smoking room (regular) is okay, 2 desks, bed, credenza and a barcalounger. TV is dated but has a medium number of channels to make it up. Bed is stiff and sheets are a bit thin, but that's being picky.
Bath is clean, sort of well-stocked (no shampoo- very cheap.). Windows open fully, a plus for me and the A/C unit is quiet enough and definitely cool.
Door locks are the old style 'punch card' style keys, supposed to be replaced in Sept '11.
Kitchen stock is the bare minimum... don't expect Candlewood here. Refrigerator is fine.
No grill outside, bring yours.
No computer inside, bring yours.
Staff is friendly and accomodating.
Don't expect much if you take a smoking room.... heard a few complaints.
So over all, it's fine for a couple of days, price is reasonable & dollars can be saved by bringing a cooler w/food & drink. /GRS

“A nightmare”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 July 2011

We stayed there on recent business trip. I only chose this because I was new to the area and I kind of ignore the online negative reviews, thinking they were fake.
The negative reviews were there for a reason.

I booked my room on Expedia and got a first floor room. It was kind of a corner room on the First floor (you can see the cars parked outside at eyelevel through the windows) and noisy. I went to the front-desk for an exchange and was given a room on the second floor. The tub faucent/Shower would not work to full force. Smell was horrible. I kept checking with the front desk if there were any room freeing up but they denied having any empty rooms, though you could tell that there were plenty of empty rooms. Besides my Wife and my son stayed back because I had business to take care of. There was nothing around this area to do. It is in the middle of no where.

Do yourself a favor. Don't book here.

“Adequate for an Overnight”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 July 2011

My friend and I stayed at the Extended Stay in Carnegie on the first night of a two-week journey. I had obtained the reservation blindly through another website, where you can name your own price. After reading some TripAdvisor reviews from other guests, I was beyond terrified of what we would find.

However...
We arrived late (10pm) and were greeted by friendly Donna, who checked us in quickly and even gave us bags of candy as a 'thank you' for choosing to stay there. Our room was clean (didn't smell musty or smokey, no bugs) and the air conditioning worked well. We didn't use the kitchen in the room but I had a look around and it, too, appeared to be recently cleaned. The bathroom was also clean and the shower worked well.

The only negative aspects to the hotel were its location (not by any restaurants or even fast-food chains, so make sure you eat elsewhere before checking in; luckily this wasn't an issue for us!) and the hallway walls seemed a bit thin (you could hear conversations of people walking down and doors slamming all night). There was also a stain on the 3rd floor hallway carpet that appeared to be something leaking...but we had just passed a dog owner taking her dog outside, he was potentially the weak-bladdered culprit.

All in all, this hotel (if you get a cheap price), was worth it. It was close to highways and clean. For a one-night stay (arriving late and leaving early), it was more than adequate.
