“Private Beach access and great whale watching”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 September 2010

We stayed in the Whale Watcher room, and we did see whales! The view is 5 star and the beach access is the best in the area.
The rooms are not fancy, but clean. Prices are good, but don't expect any service. This is a like a B&B without the breakfast and host.
One note on the room, the windows do not open and they face the west top to bottom and side to side. Those windows are great for the view, but the afternoon heat makes the room pretty hot. It does not have air conditioning, so even though it was 64 outside the room was in the 80's for the afternoon.

“Great Beach Access, Comfortable Room!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 July 2010

Spent a night in July 2010 in room 2A (upstairs). It had a good view of the ocean and was clean and comfortable. The prices are reasonable and the room had all amenities you would expect to find for the price. The beach is very close and there is plenty of sandy beach to stretch your legs. The motel is quiet, except for the sound of the crashing waves! Would definitely recommend this place!

“family excursion for the night”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 June 2010

my husband, 14 year old, 11 year old, and 4 year old loved this place. very unique. i think number 5 with 3 beds, cottage was the one we stayed in. loved it totally. like a miniature house with a second floor on which were the 2nd and 3rd bed. a bedroom for adults included-(privacy). we enjoyed the place immensely the owners were very nice. they don't seem to answer phone calls after 5 pm. so don't bother to call then. we will plan to go back. during summer months you need to have the place rented for 2 nights during the weekend though- seems reasonable. will go back for sure. it's very unigue.

“Affordable quality and quiet”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 August 2009

My family has stayed at The Wayside Lodge for at least 20 years. It has always been a quiet and reasonably priced placed to stay. There have been some quality upgrades in bedding in the last several years. The beds are fantastic with superb linens-plush blankets and cozy comforters-not your standard grade hotel fare.
I recommend room 7. It's an end unit with great ocean views from the livingroom and bedroom. I have stayed in other rooms over the years-they are all different. There are barbecue grills with most units. The kitchenettes are fully equipped. There are books in the room that you can enjoy. There are free toys, puzzles, and games for the kids to play with if you want. There is also fabulous beach access.
Twenty years ago when we didn't have a lot of money our family stayed there because it was clean, nice, and affordable. Now, finances have changed and we could afford to stay anywhere but we still choose to stay at The Wayside Lodge.

“Wayside revisited”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 May 2009

My wife and I spent our honeymoon here 17 years ago. The owners have changed and there have been some remodeling done on the inside of the rooms. It is not a new pace or a hotel with pools or saunas, But it is very clean and the beds are soft like pillow tops and the pillows are soft as well. The owners are very nice and helpful. The best as usual is the location to the beach. On the other side of a graasy yard is the beach. It is very quiet with not many people on the beach. My 15 year old daughter cannot wait to go back.
