We broke up a longish day with our stop at The Wayside Lodge, which we'd decided on after viewing various places on the internet. Cottage #3, High Tide, was "just right"—although the heat was off when we arrived, the rooms warmed quickly, and there was provided wood and kindling to start a fire in the stove. The beach is very close, perhaps fifty yards across a grassy commons, and it was our good luck to have a "windless" evening for strolling. That night we turned off the lights and listened to the ocean out in the darkness, as our wood fire died down to embers...
...and then slept peacefully on an excellent mattress, and were ready to move along the following morning feeling rested and refreshed from our stay here. When we arrived the lodge's manager, Don, was very personable, and as I recall mentioned "new" owners in our conversation. He was busy working on the exterior of a cabin at the time (among several projects), and it was obvious that TLC was being given to the place, which has been there since 1938. If you've been tempted by the Wayside but avoided it due to other (older) comments, I believe you'll be pleasantly surprised at what awaits you on this small part of the Oregon coast.
