“I wish I lived here!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 March 2011

The Shag's Nest is the separate cottage from the main lodging at Ocean Haven. It's tiny, rustic and absolute heaven if you enjoy a cozy, personal, unpretentious cottage with amazing views. The wood burning fireplace sets just in front of the queen size bed (which has lovely Pendleton blankets). Two portable rockers can be placed in front of the fire and next to the window, so if it's stormy, you can relax by the fire and stare at the sea. Christie and Bill have always been lovely during my stays. Amicable and friendly, they leave vacationers to themselves, but are happy to help and have welcoming personalities. One of the things travelers may overlook when staying at Ocean Haven is that it is an ecological resort. Recycling, composting and a conscience for the environment are all part of the stay. Proceeds from your room charges go to various conservation projects as well.
All in all though, the Ocean Haven is lovely, and the Shag's Nest is the best!

“Scenic Lodging on the Beauriful Oregon Coast”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 October 2010

We had a wonderful stay at the Ocean Haven. The location was perfect, views were wonderful and it seemed very private as there are only 5 home styled suites. Christie at the front desk was available to answer questions and make suggestions but privacy was there when you wanted it to be. The walk down the 100 ft. cliff was very doable and interesting and led to a beach that we had to ourselves. It was like our own private paradise on a great streatch of the Oregon Coast. We stayed in the Tide Pool room and ejoyed the sitting area looking out over the cliff as well as the bench outside with great views.

“Paradise!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 October 2010

I actually stayed at Ocean Haven about three and a half years ago, but when I was on the website just now, I read the "Rat infested, deceptive, etc." review and had to respond. These folks' perceptions are difficult for me to understand. I hope others who read the reviews will note the overwhelming number of positive ones. Ocean Haven is a wonderful place with the most incredible ocean views you could ask for. The owners are friendly and down-to-earth; perhaps this was the problem the negative reviewer had. The place is not a luxury establishment with subservient staff -- it's just comfortable, gorgeous, and real. I can't think of another place I'd rather stay.

“Pure relaxation surrounded by natural beauty”

I've been using trip advisor for some time now when planning trips, and hardly ever write reviews, but Ocean Haven was the highlight of my stay on a 12 day, Seattle / Oregon coast trip.

My significant other and I stayed in the Tide Pool room for three nights. It was about as perfect a place as I could imagine staying at, and the price was, in my opinion, a steal. About $100 to stay 50 feet from a 100 foot cliff above the Pacific Ocean? I'd pay twice that much! The room also included a stove, refridgerator, and all necessary utinsels to prepare meals, if you are so inclined. Now, if you are expecting to ring a bell and then there's a bellhop at your door instantly to flufff your pillow, you will be dissapointed. This isn't that type of establishment, so if that's what you are looking for, I'm sure there are places like that further up or down the coast for twice the cost. However, if you are looking for a relaxing place to enjoy the ocean and the surroundings in all their beauty, than this is the place for you.

I spent a good portion of my time there combing the beaches and tidepools, which was a blast. I saw a ton of starfish, anenomes, crabs, etc., so if you enjoy those activities, this is a great place to stay. There are a ton of reference books (among other types of books) in the room, so identifiying what you see and find is simple.

I found the owners to both be wonderful, easy going people. They give you a rundown of the place when you get there, and then they get out of your hair to let you do your thing. And to address a previous review, I'm not sure what role Ocean Haven plays in the selection of who visits Oregon or the amount of whites living within it's borders, but I didn't see a connection when I visited.

All in all, Ocean Haven was an absolutely wonderful place to stay on the Oregon Coast, and I am planning on getting back as soon as I can.

“Overpriced”

The Oregon coast is pretty funny. It's gorgeous to behold, but sadly you'll find yourself surrounded by obnoxious kids, wannabee surfers, suburbanites, and other white people (Oregon seems to be the whitest place on the planet). This is not the Riviera, but yet, the prices are obnoxiously inflated. Ocean Haven is run by a seemingly bizarre woman that doesn't understand the concept of customer service, nor seems to have a firm grasp on communication. I wouldn't recommend this establishment, though I would heartily recommend the Oregon Coast for it's stunning natural splendor, at a price.
