“DO NOT stay at this place--RUN AWAY! Stay anywhere but here!! Not worth the savings! Like a horror movie!”
This is a dive hotel! I cannot tell you how FILTHY this Travelodge is. It reminded me of a hotel you'd see in a horror movie! We booked this hotel online, and read horrible reviews, although the location (proximity to McMenamins) is the less than a mile away and we thought we'd go ahead & "camp it out" at Travelodge, save $40 compared to other hotels, and spend our savings on more beverages & food at McMenamins...we found it's just not worth the savings! Spend your money/time driving a mile more to get THE BEST treatment, food, rest & relaxation!!
We stopped into this hotel to take a look at how "bad is it really" and decided it was better than sleeping in the car, more like "rough camping." The Travelodge Troutdale is located at the corner of the interstate exit ramp, which means, BUSY, BUSY, BUSY sounds from the freeway! Across the street is an AM/PM Mini-mart/24 hour gas station, with a parking lot of Jack In the Box, and the other street has WalMart. It's not quiet!
When we pulled into the tiny parking lot, there was a large, topless man with a 40-oz-beer hanging out the window of one of the rooms! There isn't an elevator, so happily take the stairs, as there is a greasy-spoon restaurant advertising "$2 happy hour" bar on the main floor which has a distinct odor for all the nearby rooms on ground/main level.
When we arrived to our room it had a horrible smell so I immediately opened the window & turned on the A/C. The window appeared to have not been cleaned and looked/smelled like vomit; it didn't have a screen on it either, so the kids could have fallen out the 2nd story! The bouncy-beds had cigarette burn-holes in the bedspread, bedding, all the way to the mattress! The pillows were limp and dull, the bedspread looked like it had lasted since 1980, and the carpets were so worn I was afraid to take off my shoes! The round table was filthy, had fake wood & chairs looked like 1960's decor. The "relaxing chair" had holes & was so worn I would have mistaken it for furniture from a garage-sale! The refrigerator had not been cleaned as there was ice-droppings and remains all throughout. The towels were so thin and hard. I was very concerned about cleanliness to relax...
The hotel staff was another issue itself. They were HORRIBLE. RUDE, unprofessional. When we returned to our room after spending an evening at McMenamins, we saw another couple trying to get into our room! The hotel staff had checked us into our room hours before & we put belongs into our room, then went to McMenamins. The other couple informed us that they had also had the same room, and their belongings were taken (by the maids) for cleaning, and the other guests were told their belongings would be put back into their previous room???? I was super nervous about leaving any/all of our personal belongings in the room when we were not there after learning this...The hotel staff was unprofessional about handling this mix-up (Travelodge mix-up) as well! I'd run away from this hotel.
Online it advertises as "pet friendly" and when we made our booking I had called ahead & told them we were traveling with our 10-lb-dog. The women told me, "No problem, it's a $10 pet fee." The middle-aged-manager (who does not wear a name badge, wearing a wrinkled shirt with too-tight-tie and saggy bottom pants, dirty shoes, and his front tooth missing), called our room at 11pm to tell us "Get out or I'm calling the Police! You have a dog and pets are not allowed!" Very unprofessional, rude, and distasteful! We'd never been treated so poorly by hotel staff before in our lives!! Then again, we usually do not stay at dive-hotels either...
Internet service actually had a charge/cost to it (pay by the hour), and when we did get access it was very slow & limited, similar to a very crappy dial-up connectivity.
We ended up staying at the Best Western, for an extra $40, it's worth the money, security, rest, relaxation to stay at ANY other hotel than Travelodge Troutdale, OR. It's just not worth the savings...
