“Corporate account...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 March 2011

My extended stay was pretty frustrating. The rooms and property are nothing to write home about, but also nothing too much to complain about. I agree with other posters though, the doors have been recycled, so the hardware has been McGyvered. Also, eventhough the GM is really nice, others on staff are hit/miss at best. The housekeeping staff kinda does alright, though I simply had them stay away during my stay. One lady in particular would just not respect my repeated wishes to sleep days. My night shift ends, to bed by 6 am then the same housekeeping lady everytime would wake me by running her cart against the hall wall (bed headboards all against the hall wall!!!) or simply yelling in Spanish down the hall length to coworkers. SO hard to even function when night shift work is combined with no sleep. I only asked that one thing of them and it was not delivered. Otherwise, it was a fine place to crash with at least some wireless in the room and really bad tv (Satellite with NO channel selection). The breakfast in the lobby was ok, just stay clear of the DIY waffles, awful. They try (on the whole) but are hamstrung by a lack of Corporate commitment to facilities upkeep and needed structural and customer focused upgrades. Definitely a thumbs down for the traveller, but aa thumbs up for the extended business stay (if you're not at all picky about noise or other above mentioned).

“NEVER AGAIN....”

This is by far the worst hotel we have ever stayed at! And between leisure and business we've stayed in a lot of places. Certain things that you expect to find (and that they say they have on their site and in their room booklet) are not available! Linen bag was just the beginning Im afraid. After our 1st night we left for most the day and when we returned, someone had changed the garbage right next to the door and switched out the towels but couldn't be bothered to make the beds or take out the other full garbage or the tray of breakfast trash that was on the table. And whatever you do...DO NOT ask for an extra pillow!! I have never been treated so poorly. It was as if it wasn't really their job to do these things so how dare us ask to have them done! Other than super poor customer service, it is a very old place, beds weren't too awful bad, and their continental breakfast wasn't anything to write home about. The only nice thing I have to say about this place is that they do have an Elmer's attached and their breakfast was outstanding and very reasonably priced.

“I checked in and checked out after discovering....”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2011

Adult daughter and I were traveling back through the area and decided to give them a try though we had stayed in a different hotel on our way through town. As soon as we brought out luggage into the room, I turned back the coverlet on the bed (we never use them) and found two yellowed stains on the underside of the coverlet. The room smelled as well.
Though the room had two full/qn beds in it and was larger than the other hotel's room we'd stayed in before, the fact that the room smelled -- the yellowed stains on the underside were there............and lets face it....a hotel ought to throw out and replace the coverlets if they dont come clean. Plain and simple. No way was i staying there with these indications of uncleanliness. The other issue? Though the hotel had inner halls which might indicate a higher level of security.....the door leading into the "inner sanctum" was unlocked. Also when I was standing inside the room, with the door locked and bolted...all I had to do was jiggle the door knob over and over and the door came unlocked. Not a secure feeling for women traveling alone.
I did go back to the hotel desk and was refunded my money. I went back to the hotel I had stayed in previously and booked a room for $5.00 more. I took a big whiff and smelled nothing. I pulled back the coverlet and it was clean. Amazing difference.
I would not stay at this hotel again and will not return.

“Very good value for an older property”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 December 2010

We have stayed here about six times since my last review in 2007.

We always opt for an upstairs suite with full kitchen. These large rooms have obviously been made out of two smaller rooms, as there is a post near the center, but they are comfortable and pleasant. I like the nice, light colored modern furniture.

Everything always seems to work well and we've had no complaints about cleanliness.

Yes, the motel is older, but it is still well maintained. At some point in 2009 I believe, they painted the interior hallway of the north wing a lighter color and replaced the carpet so it no longer smells musty as I stated in my 2007 review. They still use actual room keys, but they work fine, and the exterior doors are locked at dark each night.

The breakfast is a tad below average, and the pastries are now the pre-packaged type, although they do have make-your-own waffles. We usually just buy breakfast supplies at a grocery store and prepare it in our room's kitchen.

As of this writing, more construction is being done on the freeway offramp and frontage streets, so there is some congestion. But once you are there, it's an easy flat walk of a maximum of a half mile to get to at least 12 restaurants of all kinds. There is an Elmer's on location next door to the lobby.

The rate is still very reasonable at a winter price of $80 with AARP.

We will continue to stay here when we are in the area!

“Consistently Great Service and Great Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 November 2010

I am a return guest of the hotel and I have been watching the reviews on this site. I have consistently had great service and the room is always great. The staff is wonderful. The room is always clean (I stay at least 3 times per month on business). Kudos to the management and staff of this hotel. Yes, the hotel is older, but we all can't be new, now, can we! Keep up the good work. I'll see you soon. Fan of Springfield Shilo
