“Friendly staff and good rates not enough”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

We found a great rate over the internet and decided the Shilo was a reputable name, so why not. This is why not:

Where do I begin?...the parking lot was cracked and bumpy. Not a good first impression. The front desk staff were polite but morning shift and evening shift do not seem to communicate well. The TV in our room did not work. At all. My husband told the front desk in the morning as he left for the tournament and when we got back at 10:30pm no one had looked at it. In fact, they were surprised to hear about it. We were told many had taken the holiday weekend off so the typical maintenance was not there. 40 minutes later still no tv.

We told the desk the next day as we left and we were told if they could not fix it we could change rooms. Long story short, they offered us an upgraded room for our troubles. Nice room but it doesn't cut it in my book. 2 days with no tv....

That's not all though... the room was very small. All rooms are listed as non-smoking but the shower curtain smelled of smoke. Our room was cleaned but the waste baskets were missed and I am not so sure a thorough vacuum job was done either. Free breakfast? Yes, and we went next door because it was that "good"...not. The breakfast offered was not worth it.

Side entrance stairs are crooked and made me wonder if I was in jeopardy of the floor dropping out from under me. It is obviously slanted!

Walls are VERY thin as we experienced a 3am party group coming back from somewhere and it sounded as though they were in the room with us.

Paint job in the room was patchy and obvious through the dark maroon paint on the one wall.

On Sunday Wi-Fi was not accessible and we needed to find where we were supposed to be the next day. Very inconvenient.

Positives were: newer tiles in bathroom, cost effective for the wallet, hair dryer furnished, high shower heads for tall people, and easy access to highway. Suites had full kitchenette and bigger TVs that worked. Restaurant attached.

In an area that has MANY other hotels, if $ is not a factor I would look elsewhere. The friendly staff is not enough for me.

Room Tip: The king suites were much roomier and seemed to be slightly better cared for. TV was bigger too.

I would like to say thank you for pointing out the good things that you liked about our property, along with pointing out the issues that you had with your stay. Without guest pointing issues or problems that they experience we would not be able to address them. I’m deeply sorry that you had a bad experience with your stay at our property. I will be talking with my staff to give them the tools to better communicate with each other when issues arise that need fixed. I will be retraining my housekeeping staff on emptying the trash, and making sure the carpets are vacuumed in a stay over every time. I will also get together with my maintenance to see what we could do on making the stairs more stable. Again I am sincerely sorry about the trouble we may have caused and I hope you would give Shilo Inn another chance in a future stay.

Best regards,
Stephanie Potter

“A last resort”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2011

We ended up here when another hotel lost our reservation for the very busy "move-in" weekend for the U of Oregon. We were very glad to find any room at all, but this is definitely what I would call a "last resort" hotel. In a nutshell: Old and rundown - newer tile in the bathrooms, but the doors were ancient, locks were very weak, keys were old-style metal with your room number printed right on them. Ceilings very stained from a leaky roof - we were glad it was a dry weekend. Bedspreads and blankets old and tattered, and we promptly slid them onto the floor, as they were somewhat stained and not something we wanted near us. The room was very small, and the sink area was tiny, making it a difficult place for 3 of us to get ready. Even the lobby of the hotel is old, dark and depressing. The cost was excessive for such a low level room. We paid $107 plus taxes, bringing the total to about $120 for one night. I would not stay here again.

“Shilo Inn - meh”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 September 2011

We stayed here on the recommendation of family members. The price was low which I appreciated but the rooms were small (and difficult to get my mother's wheelchair into), there were few amenities. On the plus side, it was clean, the price was right, and the restaurant attached to the hotel, "Elmer's", was fabulous. We ate several meals there and really enjoyed everything we had.

“Not too impressed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 June 2011

I was somewhat surprised when we arrived because the hotel looks dated and we actually paid more for these rooms than we did for a much nicer room at another hotel the night before. The hallways are quite dark and smell musty. It seems to be an old hotel that hasn't been updated in some time and the decor and furniture reflect that. The beds weren't very comfortable, the bedding and pillows were shabby and there was no shampoo or conditioner; for the price we paid, I thought this would have been standard. It's really just an average hotel and there wasn't anything particularly bad about it but I felt we overpaid based on the service and quality we experienced.

“Corporate account...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 March 2011

My extended stay was pretty frustrating. The rooms and property are nothing to write home about, but also nothing too much to complain about. I agree with other posters though, the doors have been recycled, so the hardware has been McGyvered. Also, eventhough the GM is really nice, others on staff are hit/miss at best. The housekeeping staff kinda does alright, though I simply had them stay away during my stay. One lady in particular would just not respect my repeated wishes to sleep days. My night shift ends, to bed by 6 am then the same housekeeping lady everytime would wake me by running her cart against the hall wall (bed headboards all against the hall wall!!!) or simply yelling in Spanish down the hall length to coworkers. SO hard to even function when night shift work is combined with no sleep. I only asked that one thing of them and it was not delivered. Otherwise, it was a fine place to crash with at least some wireless in the room and really bad tv (Satellite with NO channel selection). The breakfast in the lobby was ok, just stay clear of the DIY waffles, awful. They try (on the whole) but are hamstrung by a lack of Corporate commitment to facilities upkeep and needed structural and customer focused upgrades. Definitely a thumbs down for the traveller, but aa thumbs up for the extended business stay (if you're not at all picky about noise or other above mentioned).
