This motel, well located in Seaside Oregon really does a good job. We stayed here 3 days (July 21-23) and loved the location, the city, the beach and the motel. It looks like the motel is spending money to keep the rooms updated and very nice. Located a short block off the beach (just east of the beachfront Shilo Inn but probably 1/3 the price). We sacrificed the oceanfront view but had very nice rooms and wonderful staff.

Best things - close in location to all the Seaside activities and action. The motel rooms were very nicely decorated and very clean. Nice beds. A microwave and small fridge. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Check in was a breeze. We really enjoyed the indoor pool, it was warm and the kids loved that it wan't extremely deep. We used the pool at least twice a day. Price was great as it made it possible to stay longer than we could have otherwise stayed in this location.

Worst - Not much. We did not have an ocean view but we accepted that with the low rates. The outside of the motel is nothing special but perfectly acceptable. The bathroom fan did rattle some in our room.

All in all I would highly recommend this motel. Exceptional value during the 'high' summer season.

We had stayed at this motel over many years. The German couple kept it clean friendly and welcoming. The price was reasonable. They did not offer continental breakfast but it was just what it was. A nice clean place to lay your head down. It was close to the beach. So $68.00 was reasonable for it. We used to book several rooms at a total with taxes of less than $75.00 ea. on a weekend.Now I hear they want two day booking on weekends and $95.00 for a single. At that price it is not reasonable. The new managers are not as clean and definitely not as responsive or friendly. People will start getting hotels farther away and merely drive down to the beach to save the extra money. It's nice but the weather is always so unpredictable and if its bad the experience can be gruesome. To top that if you are spending over $100.00 for a motel. Lets just say there are other places to vacation. My suggeston to the newer owners would be--You had a good thing and some really loyal guests. You get more if you book more rooms. Think about it. Get cleaner and less expensive and we will come back.

If you want clean, basic accommodations, close to the beach and all the fun of Seaside, at half the cost, the Sundowner is the place to stay. The friendly, helpful staff was very accommodating to our family. Staff is very kind to children and understanding that kids aren't the quietest guests. Sure the pool is small, but it works. Our kids enjoyed the warmth of it and it sure calmed them down before bedtime. We give the Sundowner 2 thumbs up!!

My husband and I were planning a trip to Seaside for Memorial Day weekend. It was short notice and we called a day before we were heading out there. They had a room available and said they'd reserve it for us. The next morning we drove out there and drove by the motel. My first thoughts were, "It doesn't look as bad as I thought". (There weren't any photos online) We checked in a little before check-in time and the employee gave us a LOWER rate than quoted on the phone!!! We were really shocked!
We walked into our room and to my surprise, there was no nasty stench. I thought it was gonna be nasty when we walked in. There was a DVD/VCR player, microwave, mini refrigerator, AND a coffee maker! It looked like the room was made over and you wouldn't be able to tell just looking at this place from the outside.
The employees make sure that the parking lot is available just for their customers. I'm glad they did it and not me. =o)
My husband and I agreed that we will stay there the next time we're in town.
