My wife and I plus our three children recently stayed at the Sundowner motel located in Seaside, Oregon. It is not the Hilton, but it was clean and well priced. It has a small indoor heated pool which was great for the kids. Staff were really friendly. We paid 125.00 US a night which is really good after checking with other accomdations in Seaside. It is well located downtown and is walking distance to everthing (beach two minute walk and three minutes to aquarium (a must see go and feed the seals). I have stayed in better and certainly stayed in worst. I would stay there again. They also give discounts to police and military persons. If you have a young family and on a budget worth consideration. Good luck...

We have stayed at the Sundowner ocassionally over the last five years. When Holiday inn Express came to town we gave that a try but the rates have really gone up.

This summer we stayed two nights in the middle of the week in August. As always the motel has a great location, close to everything, being right behind the beach front Shilo Inn. Our room was clean and although the pool is small it met our needs for a five year old to have some fun, and it was nice and warm. Our room was on the ground floor. Next time I will stick to my guns and book a top floor room. My husband thought ground floor was good so we didn't have to carry stuff up but we listened to lots of stomping around until nearly midnight because of the kids upstairs.

Also I recommend trying the Big Foot restaurant on hwy 101 in Seaside (between motel 6 and microtel). We always eat there every trip to Seaside and have never been disappointed. Good food, steaks are thier feature, but have other things too. Also there was no problem in subsituting steamed broccoli for french fries with our kid's meal. I don't know why more people don't know about this place or why it's not listed in any of the tourist magazines.

Anyway if you want a good basic clean place to stay for about 100 dollars a night (compared to $189 plus tax for holiday inn express) I can recommend the Sundowner. On another trip, we have rented the corner upstairs suite before which is a great deal if have a larger group. The suite has a bedroom with a queen bed then a large common room with two queen sleepers, a good size kitchen area with a full size dining table and a bathroom. Great for a famliy with kids or grandparents along for the trip. (it's big enough you could throw a couple of sleeping bags down for some kids even).

Ask about discouts too, they gave us a police & fire discount since my husband is an officer.

We were passing through Seaside and decided to stay the night. Our 1 night stay turned into 3 days. The managers were welcoming and friendly and made us feel like friends visiting in their home.

The rooms were very clean and I loved the Orange scented air freshner. They are just 100 yards from the ocean front and half the price of the other places in the area.

They are just a half a block from all the shops and restaraunts. From the time we parked we didn't get back in the car until we left, everything was a short walk from the motel.

We met guests who come every year. This is a clean quiet family friendly place. We will be staying there whenever we are back in Seaside

I had booked a two night stay but upon checking in and going to our room and opening the door, the thick odor of the "scented" room freshener was enough to send me back outside gagging. When I asked if there was another room I was told no and there was no offer to do anything for me. I tried to go back in the room again but I couldn't stay there. So I asked for my money back and while I got no argument, I wasn't made to feel very comfortable either.

Based on earlier positive reviews I'd read, it seems things have changed a lot at this motel recently. I don't recommend it.
