“Romantic and Charming Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 November 2011

My wife and I celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary and chose to visit Seaside and stay at the Gilbert Inn because of the romantic Victorian style indicated in Trip Advisor reviews. Now after staying here, we plan to celebrate our 21st anniversay at the Gilbert Inn as well.

From the first moment we arrived, inn keeper and owner Jeannie greeted us with a warm smile and welcomed us to her home. She (and her lovely assistant Maria) gave us a brief orientation of the home and talked about the history of the house.

In the evening we sat by the fire and chatted with other guests while having a glass of wine and although the Inn was full, it was very quiet. Our room (the 1880) was ample and spotless.

WiFi is included and so is a big plate for fresh cookies everyday!

As a special touch, we returned to our room on Saturday night to find a swan with a red rose and a card congratulating us on 20 years. This was very thoughtful and another indication that Jeannie really welcomes her guests and will take care of the little things to make your stay special.

The Gilbert Inn is a short one block walk from the beach and downtown is also a very easy stroll. The charm of this home more than makes up for not being right on the beach and besides, I think it's ideal that not having the ocean view makes you get out of our room and walk on the beach to watch the ocean, rather than sitting in your room.

If you are looking for a romantic getway or just a clean, comfortable place to stay while in Seaside, the Gilbert Inn is the place to stay.

Room Tip: The 1880 Room has a sitting room and with included WiFi you could setup a little office if you'r...

“Very nice place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 September 2011 via mobile

Gilbert Inn is a very nice, romantic place in Victorian style. The inn keeper Jeannie is very friendly and makes sure you 're ok. It's also nice that she knows & likes to tell about the history of the house. It's these histories that make places like this so much more than just a hotel.
There is no breakfast, but you can bring your own and eat it in the common room / garden room. Or you'll go to one off the places at the promenade that serve breakfast, just 50 m from the inn.
The only downside is that the Gilbert Inn is surrounded by all kinds of characterless buildings, but that is how most of Seaside is...

“Romantic Beach Getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 September 2011

My wife and I booked a night a Gilbert Inn as part of a road trip along the north coast and Willamette Valley. I have stayed in the hotels at Seaside many times for conferences and know finding quiet clean and reasonable summer season accomodations in Seaside is tough. The Gilbert Inn is a historical gem of original Seaside character in the midst of 1& 2 star hotels and condos. It is about a half block back from the promenade along the beach and a within a few blocks of all the best dining Seaside has. The rooms are all different as one would expect in an old mansion and they have not spoiled the building by cutting in uncharacteristic elevators or scabbed on exterior staircases. The rooms are very clean and quiet with the update of private baths. Some rooms on the ground level are not original to the house but are well blended in. Their finishes are not high end but clean and tasteful and decently appointed in furnishing that suggest the heritage. Research the room you want on the web site or by calling. There is no excuse for getting one upstairs if you object to a few stairs. This is not a place designed for children or significantly physically disabled persons. Buildings kept true to the 1800's don't have ramps and such.

Room Tip: Look at room descriptions on their website or call before booking.

“Amazing location and beautiful building”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 September 2011

This place is just great, walking distance to everything, 2 mins to beach, 4 mins to food and shops, you can't beat it. The Gilbert inn provided the classic atmosphere of a 1892 house with the modern living and does it all in absolute comfort. Everything down to the coffee cups tell you that you are at a classy place. The wife and I recommend it and will be visiting again next year.

“Charming Inn with lots of history”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 September 2011 via mobile

The Innkeeper, Jeannie was so warm and friendly. She told us alot of history about the Inn. The Gilbert Inn was so charming, and
all the rooms were tastefully decorated. The location is perfect! The town of Seaside is within walking distance with shops, and places to eat. We wished we had stayed 2 nights instead of one. We will return for sure.
