“Do NOT go here unless you would like to risk bedbugs”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 July 2011

This hotel does not even merit one star. I checked in (BRIEFLY) for the Salem Art Festival on July 13, 2011. I was given room 207. The room was very dirty, the furniture shabby, and for some reason, the door was open when I came to the room. It was light out still, about 5pm, and the room was musty and smelled of Indian food from the office below. I opened the door wide to give some air and light into the room. I did as I always do when I check into a hotel ~ immediately inspect the room and the mattresses. the sheets on both of the beds were stained; it looked like they hadn't even been cleaned. I ripped one of the sheets off to show the manager, Andy. He wouldn't look at me, only said the sheet "was a mistake". I was given new sheets, but these were not much better. They were stiff, yellowed, and one had a huge ink stain. The mattress, revealed from the sheet taken off the bed, was COVERED in tiny black specks of dirt. I immediately recognized this as a sign of possible bedbugs and got myself and my stuff out immediately. I was in the room for no more than ten minutes, and so thankful I didn't place anything directly on the floor or the beds. I went back into the office and told the manager I could absolutely not stay there, the room was so dirty. He didn't look up at me, only gestured that there was not going to be any charge, as he said the same thing. I wanted a receipt, he did not give me one. Lo and behold, I received my credit card statement today and insult to injury, I was charged a night's stay. I called immediately to see if there was a mistake ~ no ~ I talked to the manager Andy himself and he remembered me, and said he never promised there would not be a charge. He refused to remove the charge. I told him I would certainly report him and his dirty hotel room to Travelodge and he did not care. This was the worst Travelodge and for that matter, the worst experience I've ever had with a hotel. If you are considering this hotel, steer clear. I did inform Travelodge customer care about the entire experience and was told it would take a few days to hear back from them regarding my "case."

“Noisy Fan/Substandard Breakfast”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 June 2010

I felt that this Travelodge was not up to the usual standard for this chain. The heater/fan was noisy and had to be turned off in order to allow sleep. There was a poor layout for what they advertised as a continental breakfast...a few muffins; some substandard coffee; and yogurt.

“Good value, but NOISY, and Internet weak”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 April 2010

Great location near the university, only a ten minute walk to campus--this made attending a conference there very easy. But the walls were so thin we could hear people talking and partying in the rooms around us. This place accepts pets, and we had people with dogs in the room next to us--barking into the night. One of our friends was allergic to dogs and they didn't tell her that her room had had dogs in it--even though she specifically insisted on a room that was pet-free. When they finally switched her, her room was infested with ants.
The worst thing about this motel was the wifi connection. It went in and out, was never strong, and really prevented us from getting our work done and this was a major problem since we were on a working trip. The people at the desk are a bit rude sometimes, and not very helpful. The room was fairly clean, but make sure you bring your own conditioner, as they only have a little (low-quality) shampoo.
Nice flat screen TV, but the rooms are kind of dark and dingy and overall this place just needs a makeover. But it's a great deal in comparison to paying a lot of money for a fancy hotel, if you're on a budget.

“Not bad for the price!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 July 2009

I chose this hotel because of its convenient location and price. I was a little anxious after reading some of the reviews but found the room to be comfortable, clean and spacious. Some of the furnishings are maybe a little tired but there was a brand new carpet and TV and the bed was comfortable with no dips in the middle! I found the staff to be very friendly and genuine. I would definatley stay here again. It was much better than I expected for the price that we paid.

“Don't stay here, horrible!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 May 2009

I stayed at this hotel for the memorial weekend and it started off ok and then it went downhill from there. Our room was not cleaned all day and then when we called the front desk ( who is the owner) he was incredibly rude and basically said "oh well." The next thing we hear is a knock on the door with some clean towns and it was the owner's wife and she began to yell at us for calling that the room was not cleaned. She was so rude and unprofessional that we wanted to leave right then, but we had already paid for the additional night. The customer service at this hotel was absolutely horrible and what is really sad is that the rude behavior came from the owners....do not stay here!
