“Good Value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 November 2011

Stayed at the Days Inn Black Bear for a business meeting. Rooms were clean and close to the Meeting Building. Nightly room rental was very reasonable. Breakfast was great, good selection of sausage, boiled eggs, muffins, bagels, or toast and fruit. Meeting space was great for medium size group. And the location was convient to Salem Shopping and restaurants.
I would stay there again.

Room Tip: If you are there for a meeting, ask for a room at the south end of the property that is close to the...

“Good Value for one night stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 October 2011

For $59 a night, this hotel is tough to beat. It was clean. It had a mini frig, coffee maker, and microwave. The breakfast included had hot menu items in a large breakfast room. They even had a tennis court that we took advantage of.

Close to restaurants and the freeway, we were pleased with our choice and would stay again. The only negative? A fair amount of freeway noise. If you have the heater or AC on it would probably be fine, but we enjoy sleeping with the windows open. Ear plugs or heavy sleepers would make it all go away.

“It is definitely NOT a Best Western”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 September 2011

It was awful. First room the toilet did not work. The next room was a nice size but old. The floors all squeaked above us and beside us. You could hear all of the doors closing. It was one of the noisest buildings I have been in.
Staff was nice but since we had thought we were arriving at a Best Western it was a shock. I see it is now listed as "Formerly a Best Western."

“Nice room, friendly service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 August 2011

The room was clean and well appointed. Check-in was fast and friendly. Continental breakfast was just OK, but did the job. I would stay again.

“Will definitely stay again”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 July 2011

I was hesitant to choose this motel because it is older and it was inexpensive, but it got good reviews on Tripadvisor and other sites, and it wasn't listed on bedbugs.com, so I decided to give it a try. My mom and I stayed for 5 days and I must say I was very surprised and not disappointed. The room was very large, had been updated recently and was spotless every day and the front desk folks were very nice.Room included a refrigerator and coffee maker and the air conditioner worked well and wasn't too noisy. The beds were really comfortable and the bedding was nice, including the pillows. My ONLY complaint is that the lighting over the vanity mirrors is rather dim and I like very bright light to do makeup - the lighting in the bathroom part was very bright though and also had a window, which I like.

They provide a decent breakfast every morning, including waffles, eggs, sausage which was pretty good and included in the price, but Denny's is also right next door, so if you prefer a change you can easily walk to Denny's. There is also a Fred Myers next door which came in handy.

They are located on a busy street, so there is quite a bit of traffic noise, but most of the hotels are located on the same street so I suspect it would be the same elsewhere too. I personally don't mind traffic noise, but some do, so if you are one of them, then try and find a place in a different location. All rooms face the street, so there is no getting away from it - again, not a problem for me.

There was a huge group of foreign students staying during the first 2 nights of our stay, and it got noisy at night, the first night we didn't complain because after all they were just kids, but it got to be a problem by the second night and we complained. Within 5 minutes the manager was there talking to them and told them in no uncertain terms that they were to go to their rooms and not hang out outside because they were bothering people. After that it was quiet. Then when we checked out 3 days later, they had discounted the room for those 2 nights because of the noise, which was very nice - it wasn't like I asked for a discount, and certainly didn't expect it, but they did it anyway..

They provide free wireless and also have a computer in the office area for guests to use. I noticed they also have a laundry room for guests, a pool and a playground for kids.

My stay was very enjoyable and since I travel to Salem a lot I will definitely stay at this motel again.
