Last summer, my husband and I were tasked with moving my daughter's household goods from Washington state back to California. We also picked up my grandson, who had stayed with friends while finishing the school year, and the family cat. After loading up the moving van, we drove as far as Salem. We found a nice room at a reasonable price at another hotel, but had to look again since they had a no-pet policy that we were initially unaware of. After much searching, we ended up at the Phoenix Inn, our last resort. We hung our jackets in the closet and hit the sack. The following morning, we had to upturn the bed to retrieve the cat, who had sequestered herself under it. We were appalled to find leftover dried pizza and empty bottles under the bed. Because of the cat episode, and the fact that the day was already warm by the time we left, we forgot to take our jackets from the closest. We did not realize we had forgotten our jackets until later, when we again encountered cool temperatures. We contacted the hotel to arrange for the jackets to be sent, and were told that "Our housekeeping department turns in everything found from half empty bottles of shampoo to diamond rings" and that no jackets were found. (The housekeeping staff must be spending their time on half-empty shampoo bottles instead of cleaning the rooms.) Our experience at the Phoenix Inn was very negative. The room was dirty, musty, overpriced (even with a military discount). I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.
