“Perfect retreat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2012

This is a real treat! We (unfortunately) stayed for only one night at C.H Bailey House and found it to be truly wonderful.
As with previous reviews the room was beautifully furnished with fantastic attention to detail and very comfortable. We had a small sitting room looking out over the surrounding countryside. The complementary drinks are a nice touch, as were the sweets in the sitting room.
It is approximately 10 miles out of Roseburg but an easy drive and we had a wonderful dinner at a restaurant recommended by our host.
The highlight was breakfast, with tea and coffee in our room an hour before we ate, followed by an amazing breakfast of pears with caramel and pear sauce, a cheese souffle and freshly baked pound cake. Absolutely delicious and worth staying for on it's own!
The only regret that we had about our stay was that it was only for one night! Hopefully will have an excuse for visiting again some day ...

“Roseburg Winner where Bailey Room wins over Melton”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 December 2011

We have stayed here twice & found our 2nd stay to be much improved over the 1st. I don't think the owner was on site during our 1st stay and the food was nothing impressive. That changed with our visit last weekend: Excellent food, warmly welcomed, loaned me tape to wrap a package, went out of their way to make us feel at home, even tho' they had a full house that night. If you can put up with a tub/shower with a curtain in the Bailey Room, I would recommend it over the Melton Room, which has a more modern bathroom. Both beds were comfortable (Bailey has a king vs. Melton's queen), but the sitting area in the Melton Room reminds me of an older home with drafty windows. I prefer the cozy feeling of the Bailey Room with a faux fire in the mantle fireplace. It also has a huge closet with a full-length mirror which was helpful since I was dressing for a party that night. The coffee, tea & biscotti were a nice touch before breakfast which we chose to have at 9:30 in the dining room. (I am not sure where kenna54 got the impression breakfast was available to be served in the room??). After researching all the choices in & around Roseburg, this seems to be the winner, hands-down.

Room Tip: Melton Room faces the road with a field across the street where cows can be heard mooing in the warm...

Thank you for your review. Also, thank you so much for trying us again after your rather average first visit. We make every attempt to ensure each guest has a terrific experience here; sometimes we fail to accomplish this goal and we appreciate any feedback you give that helps us suceed in the future. We did want to point out that all the windows in the B&B are new and double-paned. Also, the windows in the Melton Room sitting area are part of new construction, not from days-gone-by. There are a lot of windows in the Melton Room which may give the impression that it isn't as "warm" as the Bailey Room. We're so glad you approve of the Bailey Room and look forward to seeing you again.

“A Gem!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 October 2011

What a wonderful place! It's way out in the country so you have to drive a bit into town for dinner, but that was worth it for the peace and quiet and relaxation that's to be found at the CH Bailey House. The property is superbly maintained. The landscaping is lovely and the interior very well done and spotlessly clean. We had the smallest room, which was just fine for our needs. We loved the Peter Rabbit decor of our bathroom! Local beer and wine as well as cookies, soft drinks and popsicles were always available and the breakfast was outstanding and used local ingredients. The inkeepers struck a wonderful balance of being available when you needed them but not being intrusive. They had excellent suggestions for both restaurants and wineries to visit. When we needed to make a phone call to an elderly relative but lacked "bars" on our cell phones, they even let us use their phone. And, when we returned home, we got a thank you note from them thanking us for staying with them. We'll definitely be back!

“Disenchanted Guests”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 October 2011

The room was as advertised, comfortable and quiet; very disappointed with service, we requested breakfast to be delivered (as advertised) in room and we were denied, the grounds and overall environment were beautiful. Breakfast was cold and bland, however Dino's was a great place for dinner ( downtown Roseburg) We had a blast!

Room Tip: We loved the Melton Room...great sun room..beautiful!

Dear Disechanted - We are so sorry for your mediocre experience at our B&B. We have served breakfast in the room albeit not often. It appears that we failed you during your visit here and we do apologize for the error.

We enjoyed every minute of our stay which was much too short.
We were contemplating a return visit in the future for a week of R&R.
I don't want to repear what everyone else already said.It is all true.
