“I love this place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 October 2011

Even though we'd read several positive Trip Advisor reviews, we were very pleasantly surprised by how clean and comfortable this affordable little gem turned out to be. For $50, we got an immaculate room with queen bed, private bathroom, free wi-fi, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, hair dryer, and two comfy easy chairs. And did I say charming? Pots overflowing with flowers, wicker porch chairs, and antique furniture are all part of the ambiance. It is an older court-style motel, but it's all nicely maintained.

I suppose I should tell the owner about the troll guarding the front desk. He really is a grouch, but once you get past him, all will be well.

“Above and beyond”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 October 2011

When I find a motel with rates like this, all I ask is that it be clean. Anything beyond that is a bonus, and this little place is bonus-plus. It is exquisitely clean and there are so many personal touches in the furnishings: The old-fashioned armoire, the vintage quilt on the bed (hand quilted! A collector's piece), and the whimsical collection of ladies' hats hanging on my bedroom wall. It is all so welcoming, I am disappointed that I could stay only one night. Most of all was the cheerful welcome and above-and-beyond service by the owner. When I couldn't make the wi-fi connection work, she was not satisfied until she found a creative way to fix the problem, going so far as to involve other guests. I have the feeling there's a nice little community here at the Rose City Motel. Yes, there are disadvantages. There's street noise, and my refrigerator is also making strange ticking sounds. But there's so much personality and hospitality here at such a reasonable price, one can overlook a few problems. This motel makes me wish I had reason to stay in Roseburg more often.

“Wish I could say I loved it.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 September 2011

Well, I wish I could say I loved my stay at Rose City Motel. I wish I could say I got to stay here! I needed to make a reservation on short notice and read the nice reviews on Tripadvisor about Rose City Motel. On Monday, Aug. 29 I called and made a reservation for a few days later in the week... Thursday, Sept. 1. I had a lengthy conversation with the woman I made the reservation with. She even asked me if I was related to the Whitaker's of Roseburg (I'm not :) ) Anyway, when we arrived at the motel after traveling all day you can imagine my disgust when I was told by the man at the desk (the owner's husband) that they did not have a reservation for me and had no record of me. What? I hate nothing more than driving all day and then having to search for a place to stay. That's what I had to do that night. All I was told is "there's a Howard Johnson's down the street". He did not offer to call for me or anything. So, we left. We drove by HJ and kept on driving... it, and Rose City Motel are not in a great location.... We eventually found a place to stay, but it wasn't how we felt like doing it after a long day.

“Great little hotel and a great little price!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 July 2011

This is the place to stay in Roseburg! Found it on Yelp and fell in love as soon as we drove in! Price was right too - little over $50/night. There are several restaurants within walking distance and a CVS pharmacy. Owners were very nice - gave us an excellent restaurant recommendation. It can be a real PITA to find a place to stay between Redding and Portland. Lots of crappy and expensive chain hotels and an equal number of moldy oldies. This place is neither and will now be my regular stop when I'm headed to Portland.
