“Comfortable rooms but some aspects lacking”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

Stayed for one night before a flight out in the morning. Staff was friendly but unspectacular. The hotel has been recently renovated and the many aspects are very appealing such as new carpet, TVs, free wi-fi, granite countertops in bathroom. That being said, there was a uncomfortable odor in the hallways and the room when we first walked in. The hallway and elevator were also both filthy and looked as if they hadn't been cleaned in several days with pieces of trash lying on the floors and dirt everywhere. The shower also had black stains that looked like mold. Whether it is or not, it certainly didn't look appealling. Next time I need to stay in the area I will likely choose one of the hotels closer to the airport that is a little newer.

Thank you for staying with us and for your review. I appreciate your positive feedback regarding our renovation and definitely understand some of the areas that were more disappointing during your stay.

Our hotel is still undergoing renovations and these areas are being addressed. I apologize for the debris mentioned in the elevators and the smell of glue from the installation of carpet. The elevator cabs are currently undergoing some upgrades and I will make sure that our housekeeping team pays closer attention throughout the day to ensure that construction debris does not cause these areas to appear uncleaned.

While there are newer hotels in the area, we work hard throughout our renovation to provide the best value. We hope that you will allow us to be of service again in the future and show you the continuous upgrades we are making to our facility and service.

“Felt like Gold (status reached)”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 December 2011

At the last minute we decided to use up some hotel points for an airport overnight rest on our way home. When I checked in as a Gold Member I received the good old Gold treatment, $6 restaurant credit (perfect for that glass of red I'd been looking forward to), access to the lounge for light refreshments 24/7 - juice, tea/coffee, bottled water & light snacks/fruit - and an upgraded top floor room with my king bed selection.

Room very comfortable, pleasantly styled, good size and well accommodated with the usual basic over night amenities.

SIDE NOTE : *Although, something Holiday Inn always fails on through out the USA; despite offering a soft or firm pillow option, the pillows are ALWAYS too thick (synthetic fiber fill) I can never get a good nights rest and wake up with a sore neck, every time if I don't sleep with a folded towel under my neck instead of using their pillows.

Rooms very clean.

Great (friendly, helpful) customer service with a smile - front office & shuttle drivers.

Shuttle runs every 20 mins to airport. Airport about 10+ mins drive.

Restaurant on site & indoor pool - didn't visit.

Overall ambience and hotel condition pretty good.

Business center = two computers with printers in lobby.

Aside from pillows, only negative worth a mention was traffic noise (and one late night freight train?). If we'd kept the heater/AC/fan running all night we wouldn't have heard it. Ask if there are quieter rooms on the other side of building.

Despite this, I probably WOULD stay here again.

Room Tip: If traffic noise is a problem and you don't sleep with heater/AC fan then ask if they have a qui...

“Much improved after renovation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 December 2011

My previous review of this hotel following a stay during the remodeling phase last summer was pretty negative. The drills and beeping backup signals began promptly at 7 a.m., with no prior notice and little sensitivity to the needs of guests (e.g. trying to sleep in a hotel). I think many of us have experienced remodeling in our own homes and are not completely unaware of the upset, etc. It just seemed like no sensitivity was shown to guests.

After the dust has settled the results are excellent. My room on an upper floor was updated, welcoming, comfortable, appealing ... all of the stuff I think the planners were trying to achieve. It was also possible to sleep in past 7 a.m.

Room Tip: In my experience any of the rooms I've stayed in over the years provide a quiet and comfortable...

“Pleasant surprise, great value and a wonderful stay. Newly updated”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 December 2011

I experienced a wonderful stay and nice updated accommodations while staying at the Holiday Inn at the Portland Airport PDX. Room feels brand new and is updated and bed was also very comfortable. Staff certainly made me feel welcome and were very accommodating and I would recommend visiting this hotel when you are in the Portland area.

Room Tip: If you are a Priority Club member, the hotel offers some additional benefits.

“Only stay in a suite at this hotel. Standard rooms are like jail cells.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 December 2011

I had some good and some bad experiences during my 11 night stay at this hotel. The best things about this hotel were the excellent service, the delicious scones that they serve every morning in the lobby, and the $6 daily voucher that they give Priority Club members to use in the restaurant or lounge. When we checked in, we got a standard room that was truly a sub-standard size. It felt more like a jail cell than a hotel room. Especially the bathroom. I have rarely stayed in a hotel with such a small bathroom. While in that room, we had plumbing problems almost daily. Finally, they offered to move us to a different room, which happened to be a suite. This made the rest of our stay far better. The suite was actually 2 adjoining hotel rooms. One room had a bed and the other had a sofa. The 2 bathrooms were definitely a plus for us! In addition, both of these rooms were the size that most standard rooms are at most average hotels. So not only did we get 2 bathrooms, but they were the nice big bathrooms that one would expect in an average standard room. The rooms themselves were an average standard size as well, so we no longer felt as though we were in a jail cell. In addition, the suites offer more television channels. We didn't even have local tv stations in the standard room.

Room Tip: When staying in this hotel, be sure to book a suite. The "standard" rooms at this hotel ar...

Thank you for your review of our hotel, especially your comments on our great service and the new suites we have added during our renovation (which are two of our standard rooms that have been joined together). I am sorry that the first room you received was not acceptable for your stay (especially due to the plumbing issue you experienced). The hotel does offer multiple room types, which include a few boutique-style rooms at the ends of the corridors. Although a bit smaller than most of our rooms, many guests prefer the European style that these rooms offer.

With our renovations, we have also updated our internet and cable television, so all of our rooms now offer the same great package.

We hope that you will visit us again and have the opportunity to experience one of our more standard sized accommodations.
