“Good value for the price & proximity to the Portland Conv Center & trains”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2012

If you are looking for a luxury stay, this is not it. HOWEVER, if you are attending an event at the Oregon Convention Center and get a rate of under $60 a night, this is the place to stay. I won't bother describing the furnishings other than to say that the beds were surprisingly comfortable, the room was acceptably clean (I would recommend that you wear slippers & not walk barefoot on the carpeting), and there was plenty of hot water in the shower. The area that the motel is located in is relatively safe - I saw most of the homeless people hanging out in the downtown area west of the river. You are staying in a motel that is adjacent to the train tracks so you will hear them rumble by but it is no noisier than staying at an airport hotel. My only issue with this motel was that the weekend I stayed there with friends was cold enough that black ice formed on the parking lot and nothing was used to melt the ice - it was very slippery to walk & drive on the parking lot. I did mention this to Motel 6 in a survey so hopefully the management will stock up on de-icer before the next freeze.

Room Tip: There is no elevator so get a first floor room if you have difficulty lifting your bag. Persons eng...

“Worst Motel 6 I have stayed in”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 December 2011

My wife and I stayed here while she was in town interviewing for jobs. We chose the downtown Motel 6 because of its convenient location and because we were traveling with our dog (pets OK). We paid about $85/night, and stayed in two different rooms. We were asked to move out of our first room in the middle of our stay so that it could be painted (would have been nice for the receptionist to consider that when he gave us the room). Between the two rooms, I could not help but notice burn holes in the curtains and comforters, stains on the carpet and walls, a broken dial on the thermostat, the pervasive odor of cigarette smoke in a non-smoking room, garbage laying around the parking lot, and a poor seal on the doorway which really seemed to amplify the sound of the tram going by. By far the most irritating thing we had to deal with was the receptionist. He was unfriendly and clearly did not want to be working there. He was also sloppy and put off an air of laziness and unprofessionalism. At one point we rang the night call bell for assistance, and although I could see his unshod feet propped up on a chair around the corner of the office, he did not get up to help us. Grudgingly, I will admit that there are a few positives to this location. Each room had a TV, mini fridge, ironing board and iron, and free WiFi. It is a half a block from the tram station, which will take you all over downtown for free. It is easy to access from the interstate. The physical location was prime. Still, after staying in several different Motel 6's in several states, I must warn you that this one is the dirtiest and worst value I have seen.

Room Tip: upstairs seems slightly quiter

“Comfy and Cozy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 June 2011

I had a wonderful stay here. My only complaint is there is no washer and dryer on the premises. No laundromats in the immediate area either. It doesn't have room service, a spa, or a pool, but if these aren't important to you, you'll be fine.

Beds were big and comfy, room was very clean. The housekeeping staff was great about coming back when I asked them. I also asked for extra towels, and found them upon my return from the city.

I will definitely stay there again next trip.

“The Price is Right”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 November 2010

This is a good choice if price is an issue and you want to be close to downtown Portland. The hotel is a 10 minute walk to the Lloyd Center Mall and 5 minutes to a Denny's, Red Robin, Wndy's and McD. The tram and trains are right by the hotel. The amenities include microwave, fridge, hairdryer, ironing board and TV. No coffeemaker or shampoo. The beds are okay for one or two nighs... after that you'll start minding the bed springs. This being downtown and where the trains run, there is street noise. If you're a light sleeper, you won't enjoy staying here at all.

But the price is fair and the location is very convenient. It's a typical Motel 6 and travelers who often stay at this chain know what to expect... reasonably clean accomodations at a price that's at the low end of the scale. I'd stay here again.
