“Comfortable”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2011

The room was nice enough, king sized bed which was very comfortable, and the usual furniture. Our biggest issue was that the bathroom stank of stale cigarette smoke, in a non-smoking hotel. We didn't do anything about it, mainly because we had been driving all day and just wanted to rest. The internet was also quite poor, constantly cutting out.
The location is not the greatest but we wanted to stay within a close distance to the Stepping Stone Cafe which was only a few minutes away.
There is a Subway and other convenience stores across the parking lot, and a number of trucks stop there overnight.

“Place has been updated, staff was SUPER”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 October 2010

We stayed here one night after 2 nights at LQ in Vancouver, WA. In Vancouver, the place was new, room dirty, and staff indifferent. Here...well, we knew it was in the industrial area and that wasn't a problem, as we were only a few minutes from the highway and were headed into Portland proper for a getaway. We had passed here in previous trips, and were not impressed then. BUT...they have recently remodeled, and it looks super. They must have also read the previous reviews about service, and did something about it, because staff could NOT have been NICER. They greeted us warmly, b'fast server was on the ball, and we enjoyed our stay (leisure). Wished we came here first rather than Vancouver LQ.

“Perfectly fine if the location works for you”

We stayed at this property for three nights during our trip to Portland - it is an older building that has been substantially remodeled. Like other reviewers state, the hotel is located in an industrial area about 10 minutes outside of downtown. (Anyone should be able to figure this out before they show up here!) If you have a car and plan on driving to a number of places in the area, this hotel is an excellent bargain compared to staying downtown if you're willing to drive a few minutes to your hotel. On the other hand, this would not be an ideal place for someone without a car to stay at all as there is really nothing within walking distance in terms of food, entertainment, etc.

Our room was recently renovated and well appointed with a comfortable king-sized bed, refrigerator/microwave, and 37 inch flat panel TV. The free continental breakfast was fine. Indoor pool and hot tub show their age and are a bit dark, but are perfectly clean and usable. Overall, a good experience for the price - and we would stay here again.

“DIRTY”

The bathroom was scummy; the sheets on the bed weren't changed. They never vacuumed the floor in the room only the hallway. The price was OK but that was because of a discount for AAA. Very disappointed. Would only stay there if the Motel 6 was full.

“Homeless People ate our Breakfast!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 July 2010

We have just spent 3 weeks travelling in the US and Canada staying at locations mostly at the advice of this website, But a last minute change of plan led us to book this hotel in a hurry- without looking at Tripadvisor Big mistake!.1st issue the hotel is certainly NOT downtown-even their website lists the nearest restaurant about 2 miles away. 2nd issue apart from one staff member staff are totally indifferent and unfit for purpose. They even failed to call a cab for us and claimed our room had been cleaned when it had not been. MAIN ISSUE at breakfast the first morning 3 filthy-looking people were eating in the breakfast room. After a while they started filling bags and plates with food, leaving little for the paying customers, and then left through a side door, leisurely crossing the car park and leaving the premises. We were absolutely stunned. Later that morning, we met 2 similarly filthy people attempting to enter the pool area! Front desk appeared uninterested and on checkout said that they could do nothing to help as we had booked with hotels.com. This level of service is unbelievable and I would never stay in a La Quinta again because of this.
