“Perfect Getaway for a day or a week!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

My husband and I like to have "romantic getaways" in the very City in which we live...so we chose Portland's White House for a Friday night! EVERYTHING was perfect! The ambiance, flexibility of check-in time, location.... The owner (Lanning) was so helpful, accommodating, charming, not to mention a GREAT cook and "host!" The LARGE, delectable cookies that awaited us in our room were gobbled up and cherished! We would SO recommend this B&B for ANY occasion! OH, the king size Down pillows were HEAVEN!

Room Tip: We stayed in the "Carriage House" in the Chauffeurs Quarters and it was so easy to access...

“My wife's favorite B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 December 2011

For my wife's birthday we stayed at the Portland White House and this is the penultimate in B&Bs. The house is luxurious and gorgeous inside and out and the hosts put on a breakfast feast that was fantastic. I had been in touch with them several times over the preceding weeks to tailor the visit specifically to my wife's tastes and they performed marvellously. They had a special flower arrangement prepared for her to a tee of what I had described and they had a special bottle of Champagne chilled and awaiting her arrival. I can not say enough about the efforts that the owners are willing to expend in order to accomodate and please their guests. If you enjoy B&Bs, then you must take the trek to for this experience. You will not be disappointed, except possibly in other B&Bs which follow.

Room Tip: Ask for the suite directly over the entrance and enjoy a glass of champagne on the balcony

“Fabulous B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 December 2011

Wow! What a wonderful location, building and service. We stayed two nights around Thanksgiving and could not have enjoyed ourselves more. This place is extremely historic and has that B&B east-coast feel to it. Kim and Steve are the most marvelous hosts and cook up a terrific breakfast. I read that someone wrote a review that their room was small??? We stayed in the same room and commented to each other how big and spacious it was - go figure.

We would highly recommend The White House for any occasion - business or pleasure. You won't be disappointed.

“Great location, but....”

We stayed four nights at the Portland's White House during the month of July. The on-site hosts welcomed us warmly even though we arrived at the door steps a few hours earlier than planned. Since we were not planning to spend much time in our room, we reserved the Blarney Suite. Cautionary note: the web site says small; I say shoe box. Breakfast was typical American fare: eggs, bread, meat/pork, cheese, accompanied with a sample of fruit. This place is a dual operation (bed and breakfast and special events). During our stay, there was a Nike event and a bridal shower. Because of this split focus, I believe one operation takes precedence over the other. For example, on day two we returned to our room to find the bed not made, the bathroom towels still hanging over the shower stall, and the garbage can full. In a previous post someone commented about a leaky shower head. Guess what? It still leaks. The really good part about this B and B is the location.

Room Tip: If you don't mind shoe box size rooms, the Blarney is the room for you.
