“"I'll be back"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at The Governor and will stay again when I next visit Portland. Here were the things that I most enjoyed: 1) It's quiet. I asked for an upper floor when I made my reservation and I was placed on the top floor; 2) The rooms are large and the bed was very comfortable. I don't often sleep well while traveling but the king bed was great and I easily got to sleep both nights. The staff was great. I drove here and the valet remembered my name each time. It's that old school professional service that you don't often get with hotels nowdays. Lastly, the location is excellent. It's walking distance to nearly everything - downtown the Pearl, etc - not to mention having a Starbucks in the lobby. Two thumbs way up!

Room Tip: I was on the 6th floor close to the elevator - and it was very quiet.

“We will be back”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

What a fantastic hotel. A historic hotel that has been completely renovated with updated looks. I love how the floors creek and the staff was on top of it. Anything we needed at a drop of a hat. Jakes is a great bar and Starbucks is just downstairs. Talk about the best gym I have been too! new machines and probably 25 of them plus free wieghts and yoga mats! you can't get any better. I was in Portland for work but my husband flew in for a weekend stay. Perfect hotel for both scenerios!

“Portland Weekend”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

This is a nice historic hotel in a great downtown location. The rooms are nice but a standard room is a little on the small side. We ended up on the 5th floor, room 513, and I believe we were next to a boiler room or something because we could hear the hum of machinery constantly, which was not my favorite thing. Also, I would recommend requesting a room on the Burnside side of the hotel if you like to people watch.

Room Tip: Room 513 is loud! Burnside rooms have better people watching/nightlife views.

“Great Value and Location but Ok Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

We bought our rooms for the Governor Hotel through a Priceline bid for $85 a night. A great price for the location of this historic hotel. My rating of this hotel is definitely reflective of the price that we paid.

The location of the hotel is great. Just around the corner from Pioneer Courthouse Square, down a couple blocks to Powell's and literally across the street from the Adler St. food carts.

The lobby of the hotel is in the elegant style of yesteryear. It has a great lobby sitting area with a fireplace and lots of tables and couches for reading a morning paper and sipping your coffee from the Starbucks connected to the hotel. The free wi-fi at the hotel is a great plus and they also have a 24hr gym. The hotel is actually 2 buildings joined together. I believe we stayed in the shorter buiding above Jake's grill.

We didn't eat a meal at Jake's grill but did manage to go down for a drink and some oyster shooters at their nightly happy hour. The oyster shooters were not that great and the drinks pretty standard but the bar was nice ambiance wise.

The actual room was good, but could use a little update. Lots of space to move around. It would have been nice to have a couple of chairs other than the one for the desk. The TV was an old 90's CRT which made the room dated. There was no bar fridge which would have been nice to have. The bathroom was clean and huge. The bed was comfy but the pillows were a little limp.

We made use of the valet for $27 a night which is steep but normal for valet in Portland at any hotel.

Generally the service was pretty good. The valet had our car out pretty fast when we needed it. The only thing to complain about was that we called down for the front to make a reservation for us at Le Pigeon. They let us know that they couldn't get through and that they would call back and let us know if we had the reservation. Unfortunately we never did get a message. When I asked the front desk if the reservation had been made they assured me that it had. We went to the restaurant and they were actually not even open as they were on their winter break. A little dissapointing that the hotel didn't even call to let us know before we left for our intended reservation.

All in all I had a good experience at the Governor Hotel. Well located, free wifi, clean room and comfy bed for a very good price on priceline.

“Weekend at Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

It is such an elegant old hotel. We were there for a wedding weekend. Our room was spacious and the room where the wedding, reception, and brunch the next day were held were lovely. We had a so-so meal at Jakes, but believe it was a fluke, as many others had a good one there. We'd certainly choose it again.

Room Tip: Inside rooms have no view but are very spacious. Very quiet and elegant furnishings.
