“what a great place with a wonderful staff!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 December 2010

My family and I arrived more than an hour before check in and the clerk checked us in without added fees or hassle with a warm smile on her face that made us feel so welcome. We parked our car in the large covered parking lot and headed straight for the room. After 4 hours in the car with 2 little ones we were so pleased with the spacious and extremely clean space. Every detail was met from the comfortable bed and pillows to the spotless bathroom and it was even decorated nicely (not tacky like you find in most hotels at this price point).

After we got settled in we stopped by the front desk to get some information on what to do in Portland. Again, the clerk was extremely sweet and helpful. She set us up with so many options. She told us about the MAX train, which picks up right outside the hotel, and showed us all the stops that would be of interest for our family and also gave us driving directions to many attractions and restaurants. I felt she would be able to help anyone have the Portland experience they are looking for.

I could see the hotel is not in the "best" neighborhood but I felt assured that we were safe and there were many restaurants within a mile or so. Not to mention we saved at least $100 by not staying in trendy downtown. After a fun, long day playing downtown we came back to the hotel and enjoyed the swimming pool and hot tub that stay open until 11pm. They were also extremely clean and the water temp was perfect. Then to top it off, free fresh-baked cookies were set out for all guests to enjoy.

After a wonderful night's sleep we had a great FREE breakfast with waffles, biscuits and gravy and hard boiled eggs. The value of the breakfast is extreme when you are feeding a family of 4! The rest of our trip was filled with a day in the breathtaking Columbia River Gorge (just 15min from hotel), a tour at OMSI (so much fun for the whole family!) and lots of tax-free shopping at the 3 large malls (also about 15min from hotel). All of the staff seemed just as helpful and sincere. We checked out with big smiles on our faces talking about the next time we get to stay at this Comfort Inn. I would reccommend this place to anyone knowing they will receive the same friendly and helpful service and have a comfortable and fun stay.

“Don't stay here if you want a good night's sleep”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 August 2010

The room was attractively furnished and the bed and pillows were comfortable, but despite requesting a quiet room, we found ourselves overlooking a major highway (probably the interstate). Traffic was incessant, and there was no way to block out the noise. We were told, by way of explanation, that a lot of road construction was taking place in the Portland area during summer and that traffic was consequently more chaotic than usual. Maybe. Our plan had been to leave the car at the hotel and use the light rail system to get downtown (there's a station beside the hotel), but we abandoned that idea and fled in the morning to the Econolodge Convention Centre, which, despite being much closer to the city centre and right next to roadworks, was totally quiet.

The Comfort Inn offers a nice pool, average but okay breakfast and free but spotty internet service. Sometimes their network was available to log on to, other times not. The solution? One of the network options that showed up on screen belonged to a competing hotel chain across the street. We were able to use it without any problem.

“A Great Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 July 2009

I drove down to Portland after spending some time in Washington. I was there to look at the Columbia River Gorge area so I did not really need to stay in downtown Portland and pay the parking rates for having a car. But I also wanted to be near Portland so that I could take a look. That was why I ended up at the Comfort Inn...and I am glad that I did.

The Comfort Inn is about 5 miles from downtown but right next to the train station so made it ideal if you wanted to go downtown. I did take the trip in to walk around for a few hours and eat dinner.

The area of the Comfort Inn is not that great. I walked around, didn't feel unsafe but then there was nothing worthwhile either. You definitely need a car. But by going south on 82nd Street a couple of miles, that is where a lot of Asian restaurants and shopping areas are located. After finding that out, I had no need to go to the Chinatown in Portland to eat.

If I would go to Portland again, I would probably stay at the Comfort Inn again. Prices were right, room was nice, there was a computer in the lobby for use, service personnel were all nice and helpful and they had cookies every evening. What else do you need?
