“Fantastic!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2012

We travel from Australia and have stayed at Northrup Inn four times now and have loved every visit. Close to everything and very comfortable. Staff are great and service is excellent - we have quite often ordered packages to be delivered to the hotel and they have always been in our room on our arrival. They have always looked after our luggage when we go traveling for a few days in the middle of visits. As Aussies, we absolutely love the rooftop Barbie (BBQ/grill). Short stroll to Bridgeport Brewery (longer walk home!!), Safeways, NW 23rd etc. Public transport available from PDX to front door (transfer from Max to Streetcar in Downtown 10th and Alder). We wouldn't dream of staying anywhere else while in Portland. In fact, we are currently planning our next visit in the next few months. Can't wait!

Room Tip: Have stayed both sides of hotel and much prefer streetcar side, even with the rumble of the train!

So when the entire hotel staff decides to visit Australia, we can stay with you, right? ;-) We’re thrilled to be a part of your regular trips to the states and we’re always happy to help with packages and luggage the way you described. Thanks for the review and we look forward to next time!

“Love this hotel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012 via mobile

I normally stay in a B&B in Northeast or the Monaco downtown when traveling with my dog. This time I was dog-free and looking for a hotel near a wedding location and found this place. I love this hotel! The decor is really bright & cheerful, which is perfect when the view outside is gray so much of the year. The staff is friendly, the parking is free and the room includes a continental breakfast available until 9:30. Plus the streetcar and buses go right by and the hotel includes streetcar passes. I would recommend staying in a room on the backside. The view is the parking lot but the streetcar is a little loud and runs early in the morning and late into the night.

Congrats to the bride and groom and we’re glad to hear that your decision to give us a try was so rewarding! Anytime you’re flying solo (or at least with people rather than the pup), we’d be thrilled to have you back. Thank you for the great review!

“The coolest hotel ever!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

Not only is this hotel the coolest I have ever seen (pictures do not do it justice), it is incredibly convenient to anything you'd want to see in Portland. We stayed here only one night, and I wish that we had been able to stay longer. However, our flight home was very late in the evening of the day we checked out, (10:30 pm), and the front desk staff were incredibly helpful and kind, keeping our luggage, calling us a cab, and letting us chill out in the lobby (coffee and snacks included) when we returned to the hotel after dinner that evening. The neighborhood is wonderful for wandering, and we loved the shopping and small restaurants. Parking was a bonus!

Room Tip: Our room was on the back side, and very quiet. I understand that rooms in front (on trolley line) c...

No *you’re* the coolest hotel ever! Err, the coolest hotel guests ever. Or something along those lines. :-) Thank you for the review and we’re always happy to handle the odd hours that people fly in and out of Portland, either by hanging on to your luggage or leaving the light on in the lobby until late at night. See you next time!

“My New Go To Place in Portland”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

We have stayed several times in Portland in a variety hotels. We recently stayed at the Inn at Northrup Station and it will now be our go to place when we visit. The location is conveniently located between Nob Hill and the Pearl District with restaurants, shops, grocery stores, and the farmer's market within walking distance. If the walk seems too far for some, there is free transportation with your stay via the trolly. The trolly can get you to most areas on the west side of the river, including the waterfront and downtown Portland. From there you can jump on the Max and get across the river. The staff is friendly and very helpful. The rooms are so comfortable with a bed area, sitting area, full kitchen and a small office area. They had a wonderful self serve breakfast as well. The decor was chic-funky and we absolutely loved it. I've recommended to family and friends, and those that have made the trip, have the same reaction as we did. If you don't want to feel squished in a standard room, this is the place to go. Bonuses: free wi-fi, free parking (yes, in Portland), and if you spend 200 dollars in local establishments, you get a discount on the hotel room.

Room Tip: Rooms on the North side are away from the road. Lower floor rooms on the south side have decks of t...

Thank you for the review and for telling your friends and family about us too! A huge percentage of our guests were actually referred by those that have already stayed with us and we love living up to the big expectations set by our regulars (which it sounds like you may now be!). We do want to be up front with everyone in regards to the discount you mentioned... it’s only available during the holidays but give us a call to book the best rate!

“It's Beginning to Look Tired and Ordinary”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

We've stayed at this hotel often because we love the location. We can hop on the streetcar and be in the middle of the action in no time. There are several fine restaurants close by and within walking distance. You don't have to pay for parking and rooms are spacious with the King rooms having a full kitchen.
However, the hotel is beginning to look tired. The once vibrant decorating colors seem faded and worn. I can handle a little dust but do not like to find a bathroom with mold, especially at their rates. The grout around the tub had mold and there was mold on the floor along the tub. I had lots of breathing and sinus issues while staying there.
I prefer to make our reservations online but their web site says to call for the best rate. I called and was quoted 2 different rates because of the days of our stay. When I received the bill, I was charged both nights at the higher rate. I called the desk to inform them the rate did not match my confirmation and was told I had been quoted the wrong rate; however, they would honor the lower rate since I had the confirmation with me.
Breakfast is minimal. Hard boiled eggs, yogurt, cold cereals, toast, bagels, some fruit, and waffles.
Not sure if we'll return as it just wasn't a good experience this time.

Room Tip: Rooms on the street have some noise from the streetcar.

Well shucks, we're sorry we didn't live up to your expectations this time around. We repainted the hotel in December, but since you've stayed with us many times maybe your eyes have simply gotten used to all our bright colors by now! ;-) And thank you for responding to the message we sent you, but if you could respond again with your room number we can better investigate. We truly take all reviews to heart and do the absolute best we can to remedy all complaints.
