“Watch for TONS of hidden charges”

My wife and I wanted to get away for our yearly vacation together without the kids, so we booked our trip at The Nines in downtown Portland. Everything about the place was nice, the service was good, and when we checked out the front desk just emailed us our final bill and said that everything was good to go. After a 5 hour drive home, I looked at the bill online and saw that they charge $40 per night for parking. I reviewed my confirmation package which said nothing of that, then I went to their website and reviewed all hotel policies of amenities which you can be charged for and nothing was stated there as well. We don't have paid parking in our home towns, so this is a foreign concept to me. When I called the hotel and spoke to them about it, they checked my confirmation and reviewed everything and said that they understood because there is nothing online or in confirmations to let people know there is a $40 per night parking charge. When I asked to speak to a manager, they said there was nothing they could do about it and hung up the phone. I called back and they said that parking charges were normal and I needed to just deal with it. Trust me, you DO NOT want to stay here at this hotel. There were several other charges that appeared on my bill that I wasn't aware of.

Thank you for providing feedback regarding your recent stay with us. I appreciate your perspective and the pleasantries you mentioned as well as the areas for improvement. While we do note that we have a charge for parking on our Features & Amenities page at thenines.com, it does not mention the exact charge for parking and I apologize for the confusion. If you would like to discuss any further charges I am at your service.

“a-MAAAAZZIIING!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

I can't believe how pretentious some of the other reviewers were with their petty complaints. The Nines is a fabulous hotel. My husband and my family spend Christmas here and it's become a tradition we all look forward to. The hotel is beautiful, service is great (big props to Andrew at the front desk!! My husband ran into him on the street on Christmas- you better believe if I were working on Christmas I would be in a foul mood- not so. Andrew sincerely and happily greeted my husband by his name that he remembered from the day before)! The rooms are beautiful- especially the crystal lamps and the white ornate headboards. The Urban Farmer is delicious!! Honestly the only thing I would suggest when staying here is to request an exterior-view room. If you don't request you may have a room where your window faces the interior of the hotel. Not the end of the word, but the city view is much nicer. LOVE the Nines, will continue to stay here on Christmas vacations, and definitely continue to give them my business!

Room Tip: Request city view

“Nines sets the bar”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

I recently toured the hotel for a potential event and I was blown away with the entire experience. Every employee goes way above and beyond and the decor far surpasses any Portland hotel I visited. Rooms were very clean, smelled clean (trust me that isn't true of all hotels I visited) and Urban Farmer was a great addition to our visit. I would reccommend this hotel for business or leisure travel.

Room Tip: I would request not sleeping under Departure, one of my colleagues did and mentioned she could hear...

“My FAVORITE HOTEL”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

I have been coming to The Nines for my birthday every year since I was 20. I am 23 now but I also stay for any random Portland trips I do. I LOVE staying here. When I go to other "4" or "5" star properties, you bet I am always going to be comparing my staying experience to that of The Nines. I am a very visual person. Let me just start off by saying that I love the colors and decor for every inch of the hotel. I love the uniforms for the valet and the front desk. I love the white chairs and the dark wood in the atrium and the way the departure (restaurant) is designed. Above all this, I love the service I receive.

The valet: ALWAYS friendly and smiling. EVEN WHEN we return at 3 AM DRUNK. There is a particular attendant who remembers me every year when I come for my birthday. That is AMAZING.

The front desk: Super friendly and well trained. Very prompt and responsive to your questions. They always make you feel welcome and at home.

The rooms: I absolutely adore everything about the rooms. The chandeliers to the view of the atrium. The white head boards add a beautiful touch the the beds. The turquoise and white is very easy on the eyes. Rooms have everything you can need from iPod chargers to flat screen TVs. I feel like I am in heaven when I stay in these rooms.

The restaurants: I have never eaten at urban farmer but let me tell you that it is ALWAYS busy. I have eaten at the departure up stairs but it was TOO pricy in my opinion. The proportions were too little for my taste. Each person at my party had to order at least 2-3 dishes. The environment was a little loud for an intimate setting. If you are into the hip/trendy people...this is definitely the place. If you're from Seattle, expect Bellevue type crowd here.

The location: PERFECT spot. It is downtown and within walking distance of everything in from shopping to restaurants.

The Nines is the rock star of Portland hotels and you can officially consider me a groupie!

“Still Super”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

I've been many times for work. Finally got to go with the missus. This is a great spot for a couples retreat in Portland. The decor is fitting, the service is always super and the rooms are very comfortable. Easy access to good shopping and a quick car ride from great hiking and trendy parts of Portland. The Nines is a terrific hotel and would hold up in any city in the country.
