“Victorian Splendor without the splendor”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2012

We greatly admire the history of this fine old house. The rooms are spacious and the bed, towels, soaps, etc. top notch. During the winter months this "B&B" does not offer a real breakfast- only a continental sort of display. It was disappointing and B&B should be just that; not just a "B".
I give this place a B grade.
It would seem to me from the shape of things that the owners need to hire a handyman on a full time basis instead of the folks that are just there to talk while you try to fashion your own meal.

“Not a great start, but good after that”

Generally, we were pretty pleased with our stay. The location was fantastic for us. Easy to get to, with a number of decent restaurants within walking distance. It was also easy to walk to the train line and get into downtown and the zoo.

Street noise wasn't much of an issue (and I always notice extreme street noise). The surrounding neighborhood was full of beautiful homes.

The room (Garden Room) was quite comfortable. Our only issue was with the shower. In their attempt to make sure the house is as "authentic" as possible, I think they've got a shower setup that isn't as user-friendly as I'd like. The shower head leaked liberally and, though the innkeeper offered to move us, we decided to just deal with it.

Our only problem, and it set an unfortunate tone for the visit, was similar to something that another reviewer mentioned. We called early on the day of our arrival to say we'd be arriving a couple hours earlier than originally planned. The co-owner we spoke with said it wouldn't be a problem. When we showed up, the other co-owner (who hadn't been apprised of our conversation with his partner), was visibly annoyed that we had arrived early. Even going so far as to have a bit of an argument on the phone with his partner. That's just the sort of thing that a customer shouldn't have to see/hear about.

But the rest of the visit was fine.

“Amazing bed and breakfast that makes me wish I only lived closer.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

The hospitality at The Lion and the Rose is amazing. Wonderful breakfasts, rooms, and history. I can't wait to visit this place again. I've already told a few friends and family members about the Lion and the Rose.

“The best spot in Oregon!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2011

I fell in love with Lion and the Rose! The place was warm and cozy just like someones home. The attention to detail was impressive. The staff was extremely hospitable and friendly. And the value was undeniable, increasing my pleasurable visit. Every time I visit Oregon I will stay at the Lion and the Rose. I wish that I could magically take the Lion and the Rose Inn every time I travel.

Room Tip: Every room is very comfortable, but the Garden room has the best bath tub.

“quite nice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 December 2011

We stayed for about five nights....staff were approachable, flexible and helpful when we needed to ask or adjust .......room was spacious, well appointed, bathroom too. Loved the small additions (motion det lights in closets !). Coffee at 6:30 am great - breakfast nice, simple and workable. If one thing I would change it is that during 'off' months they do not make egg dishes to order (only costco premade things) and this seems odd, esp since the # of tenants is low and staff are ALWAYS there in a.m. - funny that - an easy upgrade.
