Location is great for several reasons. Stayed here and rode MAX to Coliseum for Winterhawks game to celebrate my birthday. Stop was one block away. Ambiance of hotel is fun, staff super friendly and helpful. Room with king bed looked over city and parks. Clean with all necessary amenities. Bar open late for nightcap and snack which was also Happy Hour so nice prices.

Room Tip: Top floor on river side have great city light views and less road noise.

“Hip, modern, clean and great location with a relaxed atomosphere.”

Best brussel sprout appetizer ever. Great check in service, felt like the two desk clerks cared about our needs. One noticed my hoarse voice and offered to get me tea and honey, the other looked up our concert location and when he found it was different than where we thought he called our room to tell us and give directions. Small room but fab decor. Great menu at bar, fun bartender, good drinks. Overall a great place. Not at all stuffy or fake sophistication like alot of other hotels.

“Cute hotel with a great location”

Hotel Fifty is very chic in a fun, retro way. The first time I stayed I had a single bed and the room was very small. I was by myself on a business trip, so it wasn't a problem, but it would have been tight if there were two of us. This time I traveled with my husband and we ended up with two queen beds. The room was much larger, so if space matters, you may want to go that route. Plus, the beds are so incredibly comfortable you may want one all to yourself! The location of Hotel Fifty can not be beat. You are right across from the river and the great walking/running trail, and if you can walk a mile or so, you can easily get to China town, The Pearl, and all shopping points downtown. We had a great time, and only drove to go to an excellent dinner at Pok Pok (but that's another review). If you don't plan on driving, park at the lot on the corner of Morrison and First Street. If you want to come and go, pay the $27 bucks for valet. Hotel Fifty can be a little noisy if you have inconsiderate hotel guests blabbing in the hallways at 1:00am (we did) but you can say that about most hotels. All in all, it was a great stay for us.

Room Tip: Our room overlooked the parking garage and was a bit noisy when people were down below talking (we w...

We had a short stay at this hotel, but came away very impressed. Professional, welcoming, informative staff members. Excellent downtown location. Beautiful view of park & river from our hotel room, and our dog enjoyed a romp through that park before we left. We will return.

“Hotel 50 is a hidden gem in downtown Portland”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

For a recent conference, I decided to try a different hotel on my list of choices, and stayed at Hotel 50. The price was slightly lower than any of the other hotels on my list, and the menu at their restaurant looked good, so I gave it a shot. And boy am I glad I did!

Everything about my stay was pleasant. Valet and front desk staff were friendly and helpful, and offered me several free bottles of water, which I greatly appreciated (no $4.00 charge like other chain hotels!). The room was tastefully decorated, and while my room was a little stuffy, it was easy enough to open the window and get some fresh air every day of my (4 day) stay. The bed was comfortable, and they had a nice big flat screen on the wall. One night it punked out on me, but maintenance came up and within 10 minutes the problem was resolved.

The restaurant has an outstanding menu, and their mixologist is truly an artist, mixing up some very tasty cocktail concoctions. I generally stick with wine or beer, but one night I told him I was ready to be adventurous and asked him to mix me something to pair with my delish beef appetizer. He asked me some questions about what I liked and wound up making me the most amazing concoction with gin and egg white. The prices on their food run a little higher, but they have an excellent Happy Hour menu from 4-6:30 and again from 9:00 to close, giving plenty of time to eat well for less money.

The hotel is right on the red and blue Max line, and it was easy to get to and from my conference at the Convention Center. The location is right on the waterfront, so a nice view too. It was a little loud in my room, but once I got used to the noise, it really wasn't an issue. Plus, nothing some earplugs can't help with.

The room rate was very reasonable, and quite a bit cheaper than the hotels I usually stay in. I have to say that Hotel 50 has become my new go-to hotel when I stay in Portland, for business or for pleasure. They offer the same conveniences as chain hotels, but provide more of a boutique style charm. Highly recommended!

Room Tip: Ask for a view room, whether city or waterfront.
