“A century-old classic at discount prices”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

Unlike most Embassy Suites, this one really could be an embassy. It first opened 100 years ago and has many classic attributes you don't expect from a mid-level chain. We were there for a conference and were delighted. The hotel has been recently updated and is in beautiful shape. The service was truly hospitable. The room was generous (a suite) and everything worked perfectly. The included breakfast (including custom omlettes) is served in an old ballroom, complete with a large central fountain. Great food and a nice surprise.
Plenty of restaurants nearby, too, and the Amtrak station is only a few blocks away.
We'll be back.

“Lovely property, alright service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

The building is an absolutely gorgeous, historic building in downtown Portland. It was very well taken care of and nearby to everything you might want to walk to in Downtown.

I had two small complaints which were that the internet is $9.95/24HRS. While this was inconvenient, I already knew it would be the case so I was prepared to spend the money. However, there was a glitch in the system and it only gave me twelve hours. When I called down to the front desk, the GSA was a little rude by saying, "Yes, we are already aware."

Also, I requested extra blankets and pillows for my guest and they had not been delivered after three hours. I had to call down to remind the front desk about our request.
I also requested a comment card so I could thank one of the employees for helping me throughout my stay, and was told that housekeeping would bring one up. They never did.

Room Tip: I stayed on the seventh floor with a lower, even number and was treated to a gorgeous view of the ci...

The Pro's
- Very clean, great accommodations - large rooms. I stayed in a studio room with a king size bed, a desk with three chairs, couch, an easy chair, mini-frig, microwave oven, bar sink, and what looked like a 52" flat screen TV. (see my tip section)
- The staff were very friendly.
- The breakfast is one of the best FREE breakfast I've ever had at a hotel, except for maybe another Embassy Suites.
- There is also daily complimentary drinks and snacks at the end of the day, which was pretty good since there was enough time to down 3 or 4 drinks (premium alcohols cost extra).
- The pool, hot tub, sauna and workout room was decent, but the hours is a definite plus, the facility was open till midnight.
- Another big plus, it's one block from the original Voodoo doughnut shop!

The Con's:
- It is an old building ... although some will find a certain charm to it.
- Most of the views from the rooms face the windows of rooms in the next wing of the building ... which is not a great loss since the only view worth seeing in Portland would be the river and Mount Hood and there is a very limited number of rooms that have this vantage point.
- The location of this hotel can be considered both good and bad ... it borders one end of the city core, and is within walking distance to the activities, stores and restaurants. Unfortunately, it is also at the beginning of the not so nice part of town (Chinatown/The Old Town). During my stay, two nights in a roll there were police activity (assaults in the parking garage) across the street. BTW, the transit system is second to none here in Portland.

Bottom-line, I'd gladly stay here again ... and I'd even make a special trip to Portland if I can get the same deal I got last weekend.

Room Tip: Steer away from the rooms next to elevators (335, 435, 535, etc.) While the noise is not real loud...

“A great location and beautiful hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

We took our family into the city for some pre-christmas fun. We rented a two bedroom suite. One of the bedrooms had no view but the space was still comfortable. The other bedroom had a nice view and was very spacious. We love staying here!

“Love the bed and the breakfast”

This is the second time I've stayed at this Embassy Suites on business. Everyone from the valet, to the front desk staff has always been awesome and helpful. The rooms are spacious and have everything you would need in them - the carpet is a little old and somewhat stained, but overall, the rooms are well taken care of.

But let me tell you about the complimentary breakfast. Random, right? I figured by complimentary breakfast, they meant bagels, muffins and some juice. Womp womp.

Imagine my SHEER DELIGHT when I walked in to the smell of a FOR REAL BREAKFAST. Hot and cold cereals, a variety of fruit, an omelet bar, delicious drinky drinks - the works! Flat screen TVs, plenty of room to spread out. Everyone was in a great mood to be so early in the morning and I could tell why. I was giggling as I ate my steel-cut oatmeal with brown sugar, and my spinach, green onion and tomato omelet with fresh salsa. WOOT!!

You won't be disappointed - this is a great place, in a great location in the city.
