We stayed 6 nights at the Modera last September and were really impressed.
The location of the hotel in the heart of the Downtown office district means that there isn't much of interest in the immediate vicinity but a short walk takes you into the heart of the city and towards more interesting neighbourhoods. The hotel is really well connected to public transport along 5th and 6th avenues making it simple to get around town. The hotel is also in the free travel zone which saved us some $.
Our room was spacious and decorated in a chic, modern style. The king size bed was incredibly comfortable and the quiet location made for a good nights sleep. The bathroom was more than adequate as well and included a deep tub and a power shower. The decor of the hotel generally was really nice and ultra modern - the lobby had funky furniture and artwork as well as iPads for staying in touch online.
The amenities at the hotel were above par too. The onsite Nel Centro bar and restaurant cater for all meals (Sunday brunch was good) and was a great spot for a night cap. They have live jazz on weekends which was a cool touch. We really liked the outdoor deck with fire pits and luckily we also had the weather to enjoy it. We made use of the gym and swimming pool around the corner at the 24 hour fitness health club which is free for guests and a nice perk. WI-FI is free throughout.
Staff were friendly and helpful not to mention invariably young and hip. I've knocked a star off the review though for one issue we had that wasn't satisfactorily resolved whereby our safe stuck in the locked position and had to be drilled midway through our stay. We were surprised that the safe wasn't immediately replaced or a room swap offered. Given the hotels limited liability for loss of valuables this was a problem for us. Of course we were unlucky that this happened and it was the only spoiler on an otherwise perfect stay.
Our bill was paid for by an employer as our trip was partially work based so we can't comment on prices or value for money but in every other regard we wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Modera. We usually prefer Air B&B and staying with locals but we very much enjoyed our visit.
