“Nice Building, good location but not managed well”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 December 2011

Let me start off by saying I am a Platinum member of Marriott and a owner of a Marriott Timeshare in South Lake Tahoe so I stay at a lot of Marriott locations. I think I have a good idea as to what each brand (Courtyard, SpringHill, Fairfield, Residence Inn, Marriott's etc.) has to offer and how their properties should be.
The Marriott Courtyard North Harbor is in a good location to the airport with a beautiful view of the Columbia River. The building its self looks very nice from the outside, great lobby and a very nice courtyard in the back overlooking the Columbia River. It also has underground parking. Where is is really lacking is the upkeep of the rooms, management and the people whom are infront of their customers. My comments are not from just one or two stays, I have stayed at this hotel five or six times over the last year or so. It's just very spotty in their customer relations and room upkeep. If you can get passed the low customer service and rooms that are in need of repair then its a good place to stay. I am not talking major damage to the rooms, its broken old tiles in the bathrooms, windows seals that are broken, carpet that is old and stained, beds, towel and sheet quality is poor, underground parking always has water puddies on the ground due to leeking pipes and/or bad drainage. The place just needs to good management and some money to fix and upgrade the place.
Really to bad as the place has great potential to be a very very nice hotel with the localtion to the Columbia River.

Dear PortugueseMan,
Thank you for expressing feedback in regards to your recent experiences at the Courtyard Portland NH. I appreciate your input concerning the deficiencies you endured during your visits to our hotel. I have recently been hired at the hotel with a focus on improving guest service and accessing the hotel for future renovation needs. I will begin by ensuring our rooms are clean, smell fresh and are in complete working order. Other improvements take time and capital funds. The first step is to create a warm, welcoming environment and providing a clean and efficient room. I hope you look me up during your next visit so I may improve our operation further based on your feedback. Thank you for visiting us in Portland. We look forward to making your next stay a better one.
Best regards,
Patrick Quinlan

“Rough towels and less than stellar service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 November 2011 via mobile

This was my first stay at this hotel. The TV remote in my room would not work properly so I went to the front desk to get a replacement. That one did not work either. I asked about getting another and it never happened. Later the same evening I hit the exercise room and found yet another remote not working. The Precor treadmill needs to have the belt deck waxed as it makes a horrendous noise. Apparently the hotel housekeeping management is trying to save money by not using fabric softener. All of the towels had the texture of sandpaper - very uncomfortable. Some reading this review might think I am being a nitpicker but I travel fully half the calendar year and it's stuff like this that make me reconsider a hotel for a return stay. I just don't need it.

A somewhat unique feature of the hotel is the under-hotel parking garage. Access to the hotel lobby and room floors can be gained from the garage. This is a really nice feature when it is raining like crazy and you have a backpack, computer bag and suitcase to drag into the place.

The restaurant was very good and
spacious. It opens at 6:00 am.

On the exercise room, there are two treadmills, an elliptical and recumbent bike. Exercise mat also. There is a built in tv on the Life Fitness treadmill which by the way is a really nice unit.

If you can deal with the stuff I mentioned here go for it.

“Just OK, not really impressed...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 November 2011

OK, so it's just a Courtyard and what do I expect....Well, considering I'm a Marriott Rewards Elite Member, I don't expect to be put next to the elevator, on the noisiest side of the hotel. Actually quite a small room, and honestly it didn't seem to have been upgraded with the "new" bedding and pillows. The place was clean and efficient. And again, the hotel was quite noisy with the highway, a train line, and the river close by. Probably won't stay here again.

Room Tip: If there is a quiet side, request that...

“Inexpensive, close to Columbia River & Airport”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 October 2011

We stayed at this Courtyard quite by accident, after snow forced us from Crater Lake Lodge a day early. This is a clean, somewhat soulless place, but inexpensive, as it's 6 miles from downtown Portland(easily reached from I-5). Ask for discounts(AAA, AARP) and for about $100 you'll get a QQ room w/ a river view. We left early for a trip up the Columbia River Gorge, and this was an ideal starting point for that journey.

“Lovely place to relax and stop over on a drive down to California.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 October 2011

Efficient fast and friendly check-in, quick check-out.
Lovely huge 2 bed Queen Room, overlooking the water and courtyard.
Free secure parking and Wi-Fi which had good reception in the room and by the pool.
Bar staff friendly and good service, $11 for a beer and a bailey’s
Immaculately kept, clean and fresh throughout the property
Breakfast was A-La-Carte or a buffet. We chose not to do the buffet and though the A-La-Carte menu did not show quite what we wanted, the staff was only too willing to provide us with what we preferred. We had plain toast, orange juice, coffee and yoghurt and only paid $7 for both of us plus tip. We thought it very reasonable and the food and service was super.
There is a guest laundry and shuttle bus service to local shops/eateries - we did not use either.
Pool clean and there are places to eat nearby as well as a mini-mart.
Definitely a good place to stop and relax at during a long drive South.
